I've been searching the internet.. but not really finding a clear answer

Was hoping someone on this forum could help.

What is the legal age where I dont need parental consent ?
I think it's 18 and up?
And what does consent mean?.
...A signed form?
.or ..a signed form AND there presence during the shoot ?

doing more and more tfp sessions.. and age has become a concern as some of the young ladies asking for sessions are 16/17..
These are regular portraits , nothing nude/ artistic or in any way inappropriate.

Hoping someone with experience in this area can chime in..
Thanks

Once again, "It depends" upon the laws in the state in which you will be shooting!
The 'age of majority' is the age at which the parental signature is no longer needed, the model can sign for themselves!

The majority age, by state, is listed here https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Age_Majority_by_State (external link)

I think your caution is wise.

In my opinion, since you care about your reputation and legal standing, you will want the presence of a parent or guardian for all minors. If you do end up shooting without a parent present you will want to have a responsible woman present at all times. If you have a model release signed by a minor it will generally have no legal standing.
