Do you have a filter on the lens? I don't remember that much CA on that lens, but it has been a while. That will make things difficult. Quite frankly nothing looks particularly sharp. Something is wrong with that copy of the lens perhaps?

The other images on post 26 has less CA and sharp areas. So something is off...filter? Shooting on tripod? Might want to try a cable release or timer, just in case there is slight shaking with the shutter release button.

I used this same target with my 7D2 and old Sigma 50 1.4 (still really like this lens)... at f/1.4.

I rested the camera on the desk, set this out under a lamp, and did two tests, first with 0 and the last with +13. There is enough detail here to know roughly where the center of the DOF area is and it seems that lens needs around +11 to +13, no matter the orientation.

On a tripod. Usually I do 10 second timer but I can't remember if I did with this bunch. No filter. Could it be my camera or is it just the lens? And user error?

Just eliminating possible factors. Also, be sure you're focusing on the X, and that the camera is sitting parallel with the piece of paper with the X. As TS's above photos show, it's best to have the X in the center of the frame (and you're using your center AF point).

Here is the side by side. It also helps to post process your images when you want to compare at the 100% crop level, sharpening, contrast, NR if needed, etc.

I give up. Thank you for trying to help me. I'm going to return it and hopefully someday get a different one. If that one is the same then I know it's either still me or my camera. Not sure what I'll do then. Not impressed with Canon support. The said I could return it and they will credit me. They can't do an even exchange. I don't know if it's because it's out of stock or if they just don't do that. Which means I can wait until it's in stock and buy a different one or buy a new one. Either way I will have to wait and save up more money. I bought it just after black friday and got a great deal. It would cost a lot more to even buy the same exact refurbished lens because the price has gone up and they won't exchange it evenly . They never even mentioned anything about sending it in to check it for problems. The problem is probably me, but I've never had this much trouble before. I've had issues with focus a lot before, but it's gotten much better lately until this lens. :-( It's just not consistent results like my other lenses were. They were definitely user error.

Thank you a lot for this topic, I start to thinking that its my lens issue, but noe I can see its a major issue that almost everyone had. I alos needed to adjust it +5 / +7 (raw w/o specific equipment tests).
