New to off camera flash. Just purchased a cheap soft box umbrella and yongnuo 622c triggers for my 80d and 430ex ii.

Works pretty amazing straight out of the box. Here’s my question, after playing a lot my flash started to fade as expected but I couldn’t find a way to tell when my flash had cycled and was ready to fire again. Normally it’s not an issue even as batteries die because with the flash on the camera I can see there red pilot light but since this flash is inside a soft box there’s no way for me to see the red light. The viewfinder seems to always show the solid flash icon so that’s not a valid indicator and I don’t see that the wireless triggers have any lights or indicators on them to say when the flash has cycled.

So that’s my question, is there a remote indicator either in camera or on my trigger that will show me the charge state of the flash. I don’t want to know battery level (although that would be awesome) just whether or not the flash has cycled and it ready to fire.

I’ve looked at manuals for all 3 devices but i didn’t come across anything and googling brings up more about the yongnuo flash than the transmitters when I look for items about the flash recycle indicator.

Thanks

S.

It's not a standard Canon wireless remote feature. Some third party flashes and most of the studio strobes do have a beeping function as recycle indicator.

Actually, I think the 600EX-RT does recycle beep as C.Fn-20 (external link).

But yeah, there's no beeping to indicate full charge with the 430EXII or the YN-622C triggers. A lot of 3rd-party options exist, though, that do. You could get a Yongnuo YN-685 to go with the 622.

But, I'd personally say dump the 622s, and get a Godox XPro-C and TT600/TT685. But as I'm currently transitioning away from my YN-622s to the Godox X gear, I would say that.

I've often wished Canon's flashes had a battery status indicator like their cameras do.

I can confirm that you can set the Canon 600-RT to "beep" when it is ready to fire again. I find it to be a very useful feature, especially when shooting in cold conditions where recycle time slows down.

- "Very good" is the enemy of "great." Sometimes we confuse the two.

As one of the first adapters to the 600 EX -RT, ST-E3 RT system in the spring of 2012, I was very happy with the audible beep ON function. A lot less "black" frames. However we thought there was a bug in the software in the beep ON function. Many times you do NOT get an audible beep on, eventhough they are recycled and ready to go. If I recall correctly in Manual power on Flash you can confirm. Press shutter in Full 1/1 Power, delay, Beep. 1/2 Power, shortened Delay, Beep. 1/4 Power, even shorter Delay, Beep. 1/8 Power, No Beep. And down the line with no Beep. What is going on? Reset the Beep to OFF then back on ON. Still the same. A call to Canon Tech Support confirmed our findings. So........Going back to my music days, The additional time with the Beep added to the shorter recycle time will actually slow down your timing as recycling is faster than the duration of the Beep, or note in music. There is nothing mentioned about that in the Manual.
Same in E-TTL.
So please keep that in mind.
