I know...this is a Canon photography forum. I shoot Canon, but a co-worker just bought a Nikon DSLR and I'm considering buying a cheaper macro lens for him. Something third party I'd assume...like a Tamron 90mm, Sigma 105mm, Tokina, etc. The body is a D3400.

Probably a shot in the dark, but figured I'd try.

This hasn't been an exclusive Canon forum for quite some time now. My experience with Nikon macro is limited to the Tamron SP 90. 1:1 macro, good working distance, fast AF and image stabilized. Image quality was really quite good if not excellent. That's the only one I've used in the Nikon system but I can certainly recommend it.
