Good morning all,

I have a Matthews C-Stand with the turtle base and would like to add caster wheels although they're RIDICULOUSLY pricey. Has anyone successfully bought and modified/installed their own from a hardware store? Or are there some cheaper alternatives online that already work? $200 is more than I paid for the light stand; there's no way I'm paying that for friggen wheels. End rant. Please help! <3

Try Home Depot. Any store without the words “Photo” in the title.

You’d be surprised how much you can inexpensively acquire outside overpriced *Photo* stores for the same stuff.

I’m tempted to get a few larger wheels for super ease of movement over power cords and models feet!

Hi, Is it this stand exactly?

. . if so, it looks as if the lower column fitting is a Junior 1 1/8in pin. If verified, then there are several options for 'Runway' or wheeled bases that should fit. If you go across brand I'd suggest actually having a trial fit before handing over your cash because the various manufacturers rarely agree exactly on the spec details even when the 1 1/8in dimension is common. Look at Kupo & Avenger for better value (but also check that the footprint diameter is adequate for your needs).

I did fit cheap Ebay castors to my square legged MSE stand with a good outcome - but I was very diligent in my research.

I have seen C stands mounted on tripod dollies - but it did not look convincing to me. I would not personally go that route.

?DIY. Well the geometry & machining would need to be immaculate to achieve good tracking etc . . .

Wheels are not offered by MSE for their C-stands, although no-one can stop you from hacking a solution. :) Best to leave the C-stand on terra firma, and buy a proper baby roller from your favorite vendor. Don't rule out 2nd hand: I recently scored big-time with a MSE Junior Roller, B&H Condition 10, $200. I don't think the wheels had ever touched the ground!

The Kupo rolling base (external link) are $100 if that's any more reasonable.

They are built solid and fit fine with the Avenger column, so I would imagine the MSE would be fine as well.

There is also junior roller but it is flash point brand. My experience is only with Avenger and Mathews. But this one is $150. I use mathews wheeled stands and they are super nice.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I think I'm going to go with the Kupo Rolling Base.
