I have got in the habit of savings all my pictures to hard drives/CD's and never print any, but I want to put an end to that. I managed to find an Epson Artisan 810 for $15, so I couldn't pass it up. I have just purchased fresh EPSON color ink for it and in search of photo paper, which has proven to be a difficult task. I've read that it is better to buy the photo paper made by the company which makes the printer you are using, but I can't seem to find any Epson Matte paper. Is there another option that I can use? What is recommended?

Thank you,

David

You might try Red River Paper. They have good paper and profiles for many printers.

Thanks for that! I never have heard of Red River and they have very good prices. I'll give them a shot!

Ive not tried this, but if you truly want budget, (cost) and quality, you mgiht try to get Canon paper to work in an Epson.
I would assume you'd need to create your own profiles.

If you time your purchases right, you can get a lifetime supply of Canon paper for free;

Agreed, I just picked up 1000 sheets of Canon matte for $30

EDIT: accidently hit submit, so will finish my though

I have used it an Epson all in 1, but more for color printing. It works for photos, if you dont compare to a dedicated color calibrated and matched photo printer, you can get reasonable results. Just depends on your eye and expectation.

Weird, Epson Canada is out of matte photo paper as well...

I don't know what Epson Artisan is, but my C88+ works with any paper as long as I describe it well to it.
I printed on Canon, HP and even some very heavy scrapbook paper.

I've had good results from itsupplies.com for a number of years.

It really depends on how colour critical you are. If you must have accurate colour matching, at just below the stage where you have the hardware to create your own colour profile, then you will want to use paper for which a colour profile is available for your printer and ink type. Generally that is going to limit you you to third party paper manufacturers such as Hannemuler, Permajet, or in North America Red River, or the printers OEM paper. You just won't find profiles for OEM papers across brands.

The thing is though that many people won't notice the difference between the colours when using a similar profile in that situation, very often even when comparing prints side by side.
