Recover files from formatted memory card?

I was performing regular backups, but I realized I was backing up my SD card while my 5D Mark IV was recording videos to the CF. I only recorded a few, so if they're gone it's really not a huge problem... but I would like to recover them.

I formatted it at least once, possibly more. I have backed up what is currently on the card. How could I see if the "previous" video files are on the card?

You lost me on the backing up and recording, but regardless, if you want to recover files from a card, there are lots of free programs online that will try to do that for you. Many cards like Lexar and SanDisk come with a licence for their own file recovery programs. Check the packaging.

Formatting by itself, even low level format, won't destroy previous written data. However, if you write new data to the card after format, the new data is what over written the old data. So depends on how much data you have written after the format, you may not may not get everything back. Most of memery card recovery software can get your data back. If you have Lexar Pro or Sandisk Extreme series, they come with a data recovery software. That maybe a good start.
