It is just a code that identifies the transmitter to the flash that is sent whenever the transmitter sends a signal to the flash. It enables two or more flashes from different users to use the same channel where the proper transmitters only trigger the proper receivers. It does not eliminate interference totally but it will eliminate almost 100% of flashes caused by interference from other units on the same channel. Philip
