DreDaze happy with myself for not saying anything stupid More info | Dec 23, 2017 12:37 | #3 70D is perfectly capable for BIF...even if they're not just big slow birds...it's only 1 extra fps as far as burst Andre or Dre

RPCrowe Cream of the Crop More info | Dec 23, 2017 13:29 | #4 If you can swing the extra cash... The 7D2 is a top-notch action (of all types) camera... It's quite a bit better than the 7D or 70D. The 80D is pretty decent also... See my images at http://rpcrowe.smugmug.com/

Really looking at the 80D, just to make sure my Tamron is compatible?

Dec 23, 2017 17:25 | #7 I use the 7D/tamron 150-600 for most of my bird photos. And while it works ok, it's also often frustrating because of various focus problems. Peter

Eight FPS for the 7D. IIRC, the 70D was a bit under 7 FPS. AF is a draw, maybe a slight edge to the 70D. Unless you're shooting birds at f/1.2, the AF differences won't matter. F/4 to f/5.6 covers a lot of AF sloppiness. The advantage of the 7D is processing speed and buffer depth. That said, the 70D will perform beyond it specs with faster SD cards (150 mb/s). Most Canon cameras outperform their specs.

ksbal Goldmember More info | Dec 28, 2017 12:28 | #10 Buffer is the question and the answer. All mentioned can do it, 80D is really nice, 7D2 will have a much better buffer, for burst shooting. Depends on what you are going for. Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Snydremark my very own Lightrules moment More info | Dec 28, 2017 21:49 | #11 My top rec's would be: 7DII > 80D > 70D > 7D if you're just getting into it:
Depending on your lens lineup, budget, etc, you might also choose to throw a used 1D IV into the list of considerations. After shooting the 7D/7DII birding for the better part of the last decade, that is still one I would consider strongly if I didn't have the 7DII dialed in already. Beefier build, stupid fast AF, slightly lower crop factor and customizable as all hell. - Eric S.: My Birds/Wildlife

The 70D is clean enough (my standards) to shoot JPG at 3200, and 6400 needs to be shot raw and PP'd, 12800 is barely usable. The 80D is quite usable at ISO 16000, and in decent light, I'll use 12800 while shooting JPG. The 70D doesn't even come close to that.

It is way better built. It works well with the big Tammy. G1x, EOS 1Dx, EOS 1D Mk IV, ef 8-15mm f4L,
