A long shot of that subject doesn't work for me. I would have moved even closer to the bridge and gone wider and shot upwards a bit, gaining more of that awesome bridge ribbing scaling above, while still having the dramatic background in the shot. This would have somewhat minimized the mountain, but maximized the bridge, which I assume was the main subject. People could still be in the shot, and would look somewhat smaller, but again, the bridge would probably loom larger that way.
Being pure white, I think you made the right decision about time of day (mid day). For shooters of IR, this would also work best to drop the blue of the sky to dark grey (or black) while keeping the white of the bridge intact for even more of a contrasty dramatic shot.
