I would suggest updating your OS, the latest version of Lightroom won't run on Mavericks.

Thank you for that information.
I find it odd that I wouldn't get some sort of notification from Adobe stating that when installing Lightroom.

I've been holding off doing an update as these updates tend to change things (interface appearance) that the user has no control over and I've heard that some of these updates also slow down the laptop performance.

When I said recently, I was referring to recently installing the Lightroom App.
Did that maybe a couple of weeks ago,
I've had The Photoshop and Bridge App on my laptop for a couple of years now.
I noticed a couple of weeks ago that there were updates available for those two Apps and that's when I also noticed the option to install the Lightroom App.

I've just uninstalled the Lightroom App again and signed out of Creative Cloud.
But, even though Lightroom said it uninstalled, i'm still seeing a Lightroom folder when I go to:
user name/pictures.
When I open pictures there is the Lightroom folder and when I open that, it shows the same thing in the picture I posted in post#4.

If Lightroom was truly uninstalled, why is there still a Lightroom folder?
Should that folder be deleted before I try to reinstall Lightroom?

I see now. Not sure why it is still there. I know that there were was an issue with standalone LR6. The last update was version 14. If someone missed the previous few updates then critical files were missing for the version 14 update. LR CC 2015 had the same updates as LR6 standalone has had. Both are version 14.

Here is the fix for the standalone version but I'm not sure it will help with the subscription version. You could try it. Scroll down to and click on > Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 and you will find application installers.

I never had the plan until Oct so I got the latest apps. I only had stand alone products so I'm not as familiar with older plan versions. At this point I suggest you ask here. This is a 100% LR site and lot's of experienced users.

Sorry about the "recently" confusion.

The Lightroom CC App was recently installed on my laptop for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
Up until then, it or any version of it, was never installed on the laptop.
Photoshop CC and Bridge CC were the only two Apps I had installed on the laptop and have had those installed on the laptop for a couple of years.

On my desktop, i've had the 3 CC Apps, Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge, installed for a couple of years.

I just don't understand why after doing an uninstall of Lightroom, I can't do a clean reinstall of Lightroom.

PS: I have been on the Adobe Photoshop CC plan for a couple of years.

Update your OS as John suggested before going to the Lightroom Queen site. Mavericks is pretty old.

Both my laptop and desktop are on High Sierra things are running properly. You are making big leap. Updating regularly makes it easier.

I'm back.
After updating the Apple OS and installing Lightroom Classic CC, this is what appears when I attempt to open Lightroom.

The second image shows what opens when I click on the highlighted option in the first image.
I have no idea what to do or how to do it.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Hold on!. Click on choose another catalogue and see if you can link to where yours is stored.

It is looking for your catalogue in Pictures. is that where you existing catalogue actually is. If not copy the LR folder to Pictures.

By the looks of it you are getting the LR CC Classic upgrade which is normal.r

My second suggestion was to copy or move the catalogue to pictures because that is where LR puts it initially on a new install. You don't have to and it looks like you placed the catalogue elsewhere when you first got LR. If you want to keep it where it is just point LR to it using choose a different catalogue.

This is where my lack of finding things on a Mac comes in and my lack of understanding Lightroom catalogue as well.

I've gone to "pictures" using Finder and there is nothing there labeled "catalogue".

My Lightroom folder is showing in my Apps.
Are you suggesting that I copy that folder and move it to "pictures"?

You must have installed it in the apps long ago. If you don't assign a location during the first install it puts in pictures.

At this point just use the Choose a different Catalogue and point it it to the location in the apps. You can move it later if you wish. I did that about a month ago. Moved it from an external drive to pictures.

Not sure what I did but Lightroom is now opening as it should and with no error messages.

I don't have access to all my pictures that are in "pictures", a lot of blank thumbnails show when I go to do the import function.

Maybe it just needs time to bring all the pictures into the catalogue?

Anyway, i'm leaving things alone for now and shutting things down.

Thanks very much for your help.

Your catalogue and are two separate things. The catalogue is just a record of edits. Your files are the actual RAW images.

When you come back see if it created a new catalogue when you store the LR fodder in the apps.

Blank pictures when you do the import? Do you mean when you open the Library module and look at the catalogue? When someone say import that implies the images you are actually importing, not images already in the existing catalogue.

Back when you had this showing was Lr running with a catalogue called Lightroom Catalogue? When Lr is running the catalogue name is shown in the top left of the main toolbar across the top of the program window, and at least in Windows, in the main window title bar.
If Lr was not running at the time the issue that you have is that you have a rouge catalogue lock file. The file that is the problem is the one on the right hand end of the image: Lightroom Catalogue.lrcat.lock. As long as Lr is not running all you have to do is delete that file. This should then allow Lr to open the catalogue when you double click the .lrcat file.

One other thing that could be causing issues is that when Adobe introduced Lr CC Classic they introduced a new catalogue format, that uses a compressed version of the database file, along with a new process version that would also require a catalogue upgrade. If you initially installed the latest version of Lr, and it had problems with the lock file, then you ended up installing and trying to use an older version of Lr it would fail to recognise the existing .lrcat file, and give you the error messages about being unable to find the correct .lrcat file.

Since you are only just installing Lr I would suggest that you uninstall all versions of Lr on your system. Then delete all of the files in the folder shown in the attached image above, including the Lightroom Catalog Previews.lrdata folder, and all the subfolders you might have. Then just start over by installing the latest Lr CC Classic 2018.

When you import images from your existing RAW files that have been edited with ACR in the past, Lr will read each of the .xmp files that are associated, and pick up all of the settings and metadata and apply it to the image in Lr. So all of your existing work that you did in Bridge/ACR/Ps should automatically be included in Lr. It will take quite a while to read them all in if you have a lot of images already on the computer. So it might be an idea to just leave that running overnight. Then when you start to use Lr, you may well open existing images in the Develop module and notice that some of the latest editing commands are not available. This will be because they had already been edited in an older Process Version. You would need to change the PV to the latest one to enable the new tools for the image.
