Today, the February second, is the national twins day here in Finland.

Our daughter Ruby was born on January 22nd almost 7 weeks early. We spent 2 weeks in the hospital between my wife's recovery from surgery and the time in the NICU waiting for her to come home. She's finally home!

Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Ruby!

I started a 365 project when my son was born (he was the subject) and I highly recommend it to all parents of newborns. They grow up so fast in that first year and photo books make good Christmas presents for family.

Thanks KillerJ! That's a fantastic idea! It will force me to use my camera even on days I'm stuck in the house. I think my wife would love that. I wonder if I can do it without her noticing too much and then surprise her with a book. I've used Blurb back in the day but they used to be the only decent photo book building software. Do you have any suggestions for which company to go with?

My wife used Shutterfly to create and print the hard cover books. At the time they were the cheapest and it was a good quality product, especially for gifts. Being stuck at home was the best time to get out the camera and flashes. Don't mention the book idea to your wife, just tell her you're practicing with the camera and getting your daughter used to having her photo taken. My son is not camera shy and I believe it is because of my project that first year. I was successful 348 of the 365 days. There were days when it just was not possible to pick up the camera.

Today is adoption day! We decided to take "newborn style" photographs for the adoption announcement. I'm not much of a portrait photographer, but I liked how these came out.
