Yes that does make sense... the scope is not pointing in the same direction of the as the light from the sun...

Day time lunar, seeing was bad, but they don't care, so they were viewing the lunar surface. I do outreach with the kids as often as possible with one of my 6 scopes, sometimes an HA solar scope, sometimes a simple little SCT like that one, to look at planets, moon, sun, etc. At night they will sometimes look at DSO but the concept is harder and your eyes have to dark adjust for longer to really get it, and that's not easy with kids who are not patient. So I like bright targets for them, instant gratification, so moon, solar, planets.
