This past weekend I made a trip up to sax-zim bog. Sunday the temp was 31 below and Monday it was 22 below. I was glad thier wasn't much wind. My fingers would get so cold that they felt like chuncks of ice. I used hand warmers in my gloves but, after enough time holding my fingers on my camera waiting for the shot they got good and cold. I would have to pull my fingers out of the gloves and hold the hand warmers to warm them up. I was trying to capture great gray owls in flight and they can set a long time before they take flight after a vole. I was just wondering what some of you use for the extreme cold?

A pair of these: http://powerinmotion.ca …_Toronto_Vancouver_Canada (external link) inside a pair of these: http://www.theheatcompany.com/en/gloves/heat-3-smart (external link) and you will never complain of cold fingers/hands again.

For -31 degree temps this would be my setup.

I already use the power in motion liners inside a pair of freehands gloves for temps down to about -15. For warmer days around the freezing mark, I use the power in motion liners alone.

I own a bunch of stuff from Baffin.
Very happy with it all.

Get the liner plus a mitt you like. Glove outers will never be as warm as mitts.

That link is to the older style of Heat 3 gloves that have a sewn in liner, if you want to use a third party liner you need the new version of the outer glove that doesn't include an integrated liner.

I have the older style Heat 3 gloves myself and they are fantastic, highly recommended. I'm considering replacing them at some point with the new style though, and buying several different liners.

Thirty below is extreme, so make sure the rest of your clothing is up to par as well. If you are losing heat elsewhere it won't matter how good your gloves are because your body will still restrict blood flow to your extremities to keep your core temp up.

Thank you for the links and info. I will check out them out. I kept the rest of me nice and warm except my nose. I wear glasses and when I covered my face up, it fogged my glasses up so I couldn't cover my face. I ended up getting a little frostbite on the end of my nose. Any of you try to shoot with mittens? My wife had a pair of goose down mittens and hers fingers never got cold. She wasn't out in the cold as long but long enough to get her fingers cold. Hers we're to small to try. I would think it would be tough to do much more then just push the shutter button.

Mittens are useless for shooting. I have to take them off, and yeah, my fingers end up numb.
