Well OK in this case it took two. I always make a day trip over to Ding Darling Preserve on Sanibel when I'm visiting Florida, and the highlight to me is always the Roseate Spoonbills. I only saw 2 today, but they aimed to please.

Very nice, Ian! Would love to catch myself some Spoonbills sometime; 3 and 8 are the real winners to me. 4 gets an honorable mention for bird yoga...heh

Ha, thanks Bob. It was a bit of a waiting game. The first guy was asleep with his head tucked in when I got there, had to wait until he thought it was bath time. And the second guy I saw on my third tour around the Preserve,

Very nice set Ian, Roseate's are getting their breeding plumage and the reds on the males get more pronounced. You might consider a stop at Circle B Bar Reserve on the drive home if you take 4 across. It's in Lakeland and has several nice trails with an abundance of everything. They also have a Facebook page if your interested. I usually stop on the way down and again the way back. I love the place. Or Merrit Island and Biolab road.

Thanks Ron, yes have heard of Circle B Bar before but not taken the time to stop by there - maybe this is the year to do it, thanks for the suggestion.

Circle B is the best.

They are just now starting to recover from the hurricane back in September, had some major league damage. Although I was out there last weekend and most of the raptors were conspicuous in their absence.

But there was an absolute convention of the Whistling Ducks, Egrets and Herons.

They were putting a show for you, Ian, or maybe you simply out-waited them.:-) Super shots. Aren't Spoonbills the ugliest/prettiest bird all rolled into one?
Sounds like you may have to add a day or two to your trip.
