I am considering options for digitizing super 8 films.
There are devices like the Wolverine and alikes at $300-400 that do the job but the impression I got from reading discussions in super 8 film forum and others render this more of a toy than a proper device to digitize flicker free and focused images.
Considering I can build a proper frame by frame feed contraption that can feed the film frame by frame, and also considering I have a Canon FD Bellows with 20mm f/3.5 microphoto lens and the duplicator 8, I can build a device that can take several thousand pictures of the 8mm frames and then compose them into a movie, de-shake it if needed, frame it and dub the audio recorded separately.
Obviously, this has a catch: The cost of 4-5000 clicks per 50ft of super 8 film on the camera's shutter life.
I checked out Magic Lantern and it looks like it may (or may not) be a solution to this.
The only way I have figured it could be used is by means of setting up time laps by intervalometer, set every frame to be taken every 4-5 seconds or as much as the feeding mechanism can advance the film frames and take a picture of each frame without operating the shutter. Perhaps if the delay between shots is enough, every frame would be shot while stationary but even a discrepancy of a small fraction of a second may result in blurry frames every few hundred shots.
Do you know if there is a way to trigger the shots in ML by means of an external triggering - rather than a fixed time lapse counter?
