What do you call such over there?

Being a surveyor I see reference in early surveys here (Tasmania) to chock and log fences.
Never seen one as they must have gone out of vogue but assume something like these

That's what I call a fence. Good old fashioned way. Well for here.
Rare these days as splitting timber extremely rare to non existent.
Any idea how old and what timber would have been used.

The fence is probably 30 years old at least, as that is when the reservoir was put in. As far as the type of timber, I don't know. We have oak and elm and cottonwood around here.
