I really like those when they have really big tires on them. Also, they make me want to import a Toyota version - Landcruiser 79. They have a turbodiesel V8 and offer 3 pedals!

The Jeep Gladiators look cool but awful to drive for any distance. Had one as a rental for a 500 mile trip and it was borderline miserable on the Interstate. (Rental company didn't have the sedan I had reserved). I am sure that it is great for off road but not fun on pavement.

That's good to know. Every Jeep I've ever driven has been the same... not good for long trips.

This is why most manufacturers switched to independent front suspension - drivability on the road is superior to the solid front axle vehicles. The downside is that the IFS isn't as flexible as the solid axle Jeeps. When off-roading the name of the game is keeping all 4 tires on the ground. The 'fix' for this is locking differentials and fancy traction control systems like the new Broncos and Land Rovers have. My FJ Cruiser has a rear locker, but I've never used it before. Lol.

The biggest beef I have with Jeep is the lack of quality/reliability. Consumer Reports ranked Jeep dead last in overall quality for 2022.

The Gladiator I drove required constant correction to stay in lane and the wind noise was terrible (I am used to trucks, I drive a Silverado 4wd with oversized tires)

I drove a Gladiator from New York to Arizona and back and I have to say it was the most comfortable ride I've had. 10+ hours per day for four days was easy.
It has no more noise than any other Wrangler I've driven.
I am looking forward to the next chance I have for a cross-country trip.

That's amazing, wow. That's the highest mileage S54 I've ever heard of...! You've got me beat by 20k.
