.

What a cool looking woodpecker! . Whenever I see cool looking birds from other parts of the world, it makes me wish that we had them here in North America, too.

Many woodpeckers don't migrate, and will spend their entire year - even their entire life - in one region. . Do you know if this species is one of these year-long residents in your area? . If so, do you think that in the spring you will have a chance to look for its nest?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Sweet!!!

I'd have to say woodpeckers are one of my favorite subjects.

Definitely understand that feeling, but at the same time I've had people from other countries or other regions of the US say the same things about common birds that I have in my backyard every day. It's a two way street.

Nice shot, we need the background story though. Did you just randomly come across a banded pileated or was this at/near a location where there is something like a frequent banding station or university with a banding program or something similar? There can't be all that many banded pileateds out there, really cool! Can you read the band in any of your shots?

Guy's it's not proper etiquette to hijack someone's awesome photo post.
Like I did posting the image above.

I've apologized to Alan but wanted to make my mistake a public learning experience.

Thanks for bringing my attention to the error Tom.
