I have a Paul C Buff Einstein light and the cyber commander. Ive got the cyber commander on a hot shoe on the 5D Mark IV but I need some help getting it to work.

I have them both set to the same frequency and channel. But have a few questions

1. When I take a photo while in live view, it does not trigger my flash. Is this normal(it does trigger the flash if I’m using the view finder though.

2. How do I control the flash output and if possible the modeling light from the cyber commander? I can’t seem to turn up or down the Einstein flash or modeling lamp from the cyber commander, but I believe this is possible to do. Anyone care to help me get this situated? I hate having to take a rest shot then walk to the Einstein to turn the light up or down

3. When I’m shooting at 1/250 shutter speed or higher, there’s a black bar across my image. Isn’t there a way to get the flash to go faster so that it works evenly across the image at higher shutter speeds?

Have you successfully triggered an off-camera flash before in Live View? It's necessary that the Canon Silent Shutter mode be disabled to fire an off-camera flash in Live View.

Yes, it's possible and, indeed, the primary use of the CyberCommander.

You do have to make sure each light is properly set up in the CyberCommander. This is relatively simple in the Setup menu with an Einstein. If you believe you'd done that correctly, let us know what settings you've got installed.

3. When I’m shooting at 1/250 shutter speed or higher, there’s a black bar across my image. Isn’t there a way to get the flash to go faster so that it works evenly across the image at higher shutter speeds?

Your camera's maximum electronic flash synchronization speed is less than 1/250. That's a limitation of that camera and flash technology.

2. I believe that I have it setup correctly, but as this is my first time using this gear I could be completely off. I just figured as long as it triggered the Einstein that it was properly setup and would allow me to control the Einstein from the cyber commander which isn’t the case. What settings should I take a look at to report back?

3. I thought there was a high sync flash option that allowed for higher shutter speed. At this point, anything higher than 1/200 oshutter gives me a black portion of the image

Buff scoffed at the various methods of achieving faster than x-sync while he was alive, so the Cyber Commander has no facility for it.

Since he was the resident Mad Genius, it's unlikely that will change. At best, we'll see a whole new product sometime in the future.

2. you need to toggle the right joystick over to the settings menu and then light settings. Then change the modeling light to "adjust" I believe for each light. You can also put it at full, track, or off. Then you'll have another screen you can switch to that allows you to adjust the modeling lamp power for your lights.

3. None of the PCB products can do high speed sync. You can do hypersync with the right triggers and some Alien Bees or White Lightning strobes, but I think the flash duration on Einsteins is too short for that to work. I haven't tried it with mine.
