I’ve researched and couldn’t find any answers.

Does anybody know any affordable good speed ring mount that will fit the Profoto B1 head? I’m also looking for alternative 3rd party softbox as well. If you guys know please share. Thank you.

Hi KOUASUPRA ,

Pardon me if I maybe misunderstanding your inquiry (which maybe that you are inquiring for both non-Profoto speedrings AND non-Profoto modifiers), perhaps…

Link -> Speedrings for Profoto:

In the interest of sharing & experience…

Regarding modifiers, sure it depends on your intended applications, but I find that it is amazingly simple to just have one or two modifiers only, of any of the following for almost any shoot. It keeps life & any photo shoot simple, gear compact & fast – one of the purposes of B1/B1X’s!
2ft Octa (for individual & couples; very practical, compactly portable, particularly in a city environment)
3ft Octa (for groups; my favourite modifier - this is a super quality flattering light & good general use/versatile size)
1ft x 3ft (for creativity)
or Bare flash (for creativity, or groups. Find that with the stock frosted flat-front glass the light doesn’t seem as harsh as traditional bare strobe, particularly with proper subtle finessing of light)

However everyone has their own style and preference.

Obviously, other manufacturers modifiers can be used - that is an individual value-equation.
*I gravitate to the PROFOTO brand version of light modifiers most, as they produce quality light, excellent durable construction & most importantly are solution-driven!

Have found use of Profoto OCF, RFI & Lastolite all with Profoto mounts for the following manufacturers & types of light modifiers…
-Profoto (RFI’s & OCF’s); as indicated I gravitate to these most often -> quality, durable, hassle-free & solution-driven.

Other suggestions/manufacturers based on my experience are…
-durable & quality Westcott 1ft x 3ft:

-super compact Westcott White Collapsible Umbrella* (with removeable black cover) [Mfr# 2011]:

-“price is right” Westcott 7ft Umbrellas*:

-Westcott 7ft umbrella Diffuser:

*Umbrella CAVEAT: for both types of Westcott umbrellas I use an umbrella mount, like a sturdy Manfrotto [Mfr#026]:

As you may recall in a previous thread/post during your initial initiation to your B1's & umbrellas.
(for the purists - yes the strobe is then slightly off-centered relative to the umbrella, but it will only bother techies, not the action-oriented personality photographers such as myself, nor my discerning clients. Safety is always paramount, even though I carry public-liability insurance).
-Lastolite 24” & 30”Softbox:

Sorry if this doesn’t help, based on the interpretation of your inquiry.
Cheers & good luck with your search & selection(s) that will work for your applications. Have fun!

Just one view….

Mary
