Equine Therapy

Looking for some advice.... I am volunteering at a ranch to take pictures. They will be doing a hippotherapy session and would like me to take some photos. Any words of advice for this newbie?

I have plenty of shots around horses, and feel comfortable, but anyone have experience that they care to share? Like "if I had known about...."


Thanks in advance. I am super excited about this experience as I feel they are amazing people and animals doing amazing things for others. I want to do well by them.

Strongly suggest trying to arrange to meet the horses the day before, and make sure they're okay around the camera gear you'll be using. Some horses do not take kindly to cameras and shutter sounds, even if they are normally good with noises and such. (I suspect it is something to do with the eye-like reflection off the camera lens that makes them react weirdly.)

Being up in the saddle yourself opens up many shots not available from the ground. (And even though no horseman I had great fun.)
