From DPReview...

”The camera is capable of shooting bursts at 20 fps with continuous autofocus using its electronic shutter (9 fps with mechanical) and 60 fps with single AF (12 fps with mechanical). The buffer allows for up to 50 Raw images to be captured in a single burst.”

So @LoneRider, do I hear you saying I should jump for the G9 and maybe e bring it along as a backup when in Africa? I only go there about every five (5) years or so. I guess I'm stuck with the "exception to the rule" on this issue.

I'm itching to buy something. -?

BTW, I notice we're neighbors ... Marysville-to-Edmonds

My old stomping ground, grew up in Shoreline.

As far as if you “should”, you got to make that call on your own. If you don’t mind dealing with two systems, there are some definite benefits to it and the G9 is a pretty impressive camera.

While the body is one of the largest MFT ones there is, pretty much identical size as the R, the diminutive lenses make for an easy to carry package that is much less obtrusive to a DSLR or FF mirrorless with EF lenses.

I dabbled in MFT a few years back when the Olympus E-M1 made its debut, top of the line at the time. The G9 is light years ahead. Fast AF system, better sensor, great ergonomics. Not the end all system, but where it works (good light or static subjects) it is a serious contender.

Dual IS makes it silly easy to get 1/4 second shots handheld.

I think originally the thing that brought people to the mirrorless cameras was the small size. That is going by the wayside.

I bought the GX85 and returned it because it was just awkward in my hands and too small. In the end I'm not that concerned with the size.

I'm not even sure why I'm considering a new camera especially another brand. Hahahaha. I am so dumb.

Maybe I should go buy a new car instead.

I know for sure that for some reason, my G9 does better tracking with more keepers, in slower shutter panning scenarios using the mechanical shutter than the electronic. I don't even bother with the E shutter any more when shooting action. The mechanical shutter simply does it better. Tested over a days shooting at the track

I haven’t tried mine yet, but 9 fps is plenty fast for me and if it gives 50% keeper rate at that I would be more then satisfied.

And in other news, I just picked up the very lovely Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for my G9. Oh my. It's very very nice. You REALLY have to be careful with your AF point placement at portrait distances. DOF really is pretty thin.
I haven't had a chance to use it properly as yet, as between ordering it, and the lens being delivered, I got hit by a ute, fracturing my hip. There's 2 months of my life down the drain, hopping around on crutches. Oh well, good incentive for a big effort in recovering :)
