DSLR? Who knew? Heh.

Thanks I’ll try it. Same with lens?

Pick manufacture for lens and should be able to find. Once again select “own” and it goes to a drop down of YOUR lenses for future use.

Using the kit lens 12-60mm f/2.8-4 ?

Once you get your cameras and lenses on your “owned” list it is pretty quick to select if forum doesn’t recognize.

Yeah. Not much of a problem. Thanks for the help.

And, like I said, stand by for lots of questions. The options etc. on the G9 are many and a little overwhelming. But it’s only day 1. :-D

What do you think of the shutter release? Bit of a hair trigger no?

If it isn’t fast enough for you, you can set it to release on half-press as well.

Yep it's a little sensitive but I think it's easy to get use to. I've taken a lot of unwanted pics (ha) so far but I think I'll be OK with it...

Two of my boy. A little perplexed as i had to do a lot in post as they all seemed underexposed by a lot. Maybe some backlighting going on I'm not sure.

To be honest I haven't been wowed by the .jegs SOOC. Maybe just need to get used to the new camera.

I do like the second one better.. quite honestly as much as I love panasonic cameras and m43 in general .. the jpegs are just ok (in my opinion of course)

I think the only system I use jpegs (and thats a rare thing.. I love editing my pics, I find it therapeutic) is from my Fuji cameras.

What are your iDynamic settings? If you leave iDynamic "on" when shooting raw, the camera will underexpose to preserve highlights, because that's how it works in JPEG conversion in camera. If you're going to edit raw in a standalone raw converter/editing program, be sure to turn iDynamic off, as this will then give you a true representation of actual exposure. The raws won't be "contaminated" so to speak, by the JPEG representation presented in the EVF.

To be honest I haven't been wowed by the .jegs SOOC. Maybe just need to get used to the new camera.

That's entirely up to you, to set up a picture style that is pleasing to your eye. Panasonic have some of THE best tools available, to produce JPEGs to your own taste. The previously mentioned iDynamic settings. User adjustable in camera tone curves. White balance offsets that you can adjust in any direction, save, and apply to any of the auto WB settings in camera. Utterly brilliant. Simply press the WB button, hit the down arrow key, and move the cross hair in any direction you please. Warmer, cooler, whatever you like. Then hit set, done. This will then be applied as on offset to the auto WB settings.
I personally turn the NR and sharpness down, and leave that to when I resize for whatever display purpose

@speedync --- First off thank you for the information. The iDynamic and iResolution setting are set to "Off".

In reality it's prolly not that big a deal since I shoot RAW almost 100% of the time. Although getting a new camera and hearing about how great the JPEG engine is (without going through all the setting options you described), of course, you get curious. So I shot some JPEG + RAW just to see. Frankly I was disappointed. The JPEGS look flat and dull.

Sure I could go through all the WB curve adjustments and all the picture style adjustments just to make my self happy. I was just commenting that the Panasonic JPEG engine doesn't appear to be the great. Without all the changes you make do you agree?

I selected the “vivid” jpg setting, happy with the results but I still tend to tweak almost everything a little before posting

You’re shooting JPEG a lot or is this something new?
