On a related note, what is the iISO setting next to Auto ISO and before ISO 200?
What does that iISO setting do?

kiwichris I forget how I didded that! More info | Apr 30, 2019 21:37 | #362 speedync wrote in post #18853987 Some m4/3 sensors had a base ISO of 200. If you set the extended ISO, and then used ISO 100, you lost a bit of dynamic range. The GX8 and G9 don't suffer from this, it's just a bit of a hangover from earlier models. Use either, whatever works for you. Personally, I only really ever drop to ISO 100 of I deliberately want lower shutter speeds ie fill flash, introducing a bit of movement blur, or using primes wide open outdoors. Problem is, I am old skool film days and my brain still says lower ISO rating means richer fuller colour. I find ISO 200 a tad fast for most of my work, well I did. Panasonic Lumix G9 and some lenses

What does that iISO setting do? ![]() Hey dummy I found the answer for you... LOL One is smart the other is not. Auto ISO is actually the one that is smart. You can set the max limit for both modes up to ISO 12,800 on the GH3. However, the intelligent ISO will only use greater than ISO 3200 if it senses both high subject motion and extremely low light. In fact the intelligent ISO mode does not adhere to the "keep the shutter speed faster than 1/(2x Focal Length)" rule that the Auto ISO mode does. It will use a 1/20th of a second shutter speed with ISO 3200 and a 200mm equivalent focal length when I set the max ISO to 12,800 and it does not detect any motion. At that focal length 1/20th of a second is just entirely too long of a shutter duration. Also it is not sensitive enough to motion. It will only trigger the higher shutter speeds and ISO values if it senses that the entire frame is moving. If the subject's hand or arms or head are moving it will not allow the ISO to go above ISO 3200. It just seems like no matter what scenario you have the Intelligent ISO will ALWAYS use too long of a shutter duration. This is why I absolutely never recommend using the Intelligent Auto mode(It only uses Intelligent ISO). Panasonic really needs to figure out how to do proper Auto ISO with m4/3s. The LX7's Auto ISO mode is nearly perfect. It allows you to set a minimum shutter speed.
