It looks like Maggie, the dog, is ignoring the frisbe to her left in favor of enjoying the view. Actually it's not a frisbe, and she's looking at a motor boat. But please tell me what you feel, and most imoprtantly what I could have done better. Thanks.

In your mind it is a picture of Maggie and her toy, but for the viewer who just came around the corner and is confronted with this image, it is entirely different. This is a classic example of why I should never read the caption before looking at the image - I often get a frame of mind or attitude about the picture which makes it hard to be objective.

I see a landscape/seascape that is very nice, slightly underexposed and with a reasonably good composition that could be improved upon by simply cropping away some of the upper sky. The horizon is a bit too central.

I will retract my comment about being underexposed. As I look again, I see that it is one of those very heavy overcasts that leaves the foreground looking too dark. As best as I can tell, the sun is low and to the right, but the lighting is very poor for the foreground. No matter what you thought your subject was, the lighting has chosen otherwise. In the scene that I see, we have a landscape/seascape that has a little added interest in the form of a nice looking dog. The frisbee is just a distraction that does not help the image.

In order to get what I think you wanted, you have to have lighting that gives the subject what it needs to set it apart from the rest of the picture.

It's very nice, and I like it overall, but i don't think it conveys what you had in mind.

Oh, good point, Bob. From now on I'll try to keep the caption free of judgements. Yes, I KNOW what I think, and here I am asking what YOU think. Thanks for that. I have another shot of a bird standing atop a car facing the overlook on Cadillac Mountain in Maine. It too looks like the bird is in awe of creation. Keep up the good word.

I wouldn't mind seeing that. The last time I stood on top of Cadillac Mountain was with my two oldest children as little pre-school hikers in 1964. We were tent camping on Mt. Desert Island. I don't think there was a way to get a car up there at that time.

Yes, there are all kinds of activity on Cadillac now, but Maine has kept it very nice. I try to make the 12-hour drive every year around October when only the real Mainers are there. I'm at work now, or I'd re-size this to post it here, but you can see the cartop bird here: http://www.bassball.us …lbum=random&cat=0&pos=-31 (external link). I'd be honored, Bob. Thanks again.

That is weird for that type of sea bird would be up that high. It's a tremendous view. When I was there with my two oldest children a rainstorm (not very bad) came over and we had to crawl under some rocks that provided a little shelter. I don't have any stills from that trip, just some 8mm cine. Really brings back wonderful memories. I lived in Norwood, MA at the time.
