I am entering two photos for a local competition in the landscape section but I am not sure which to pick.
I value your input and if you see any edits required, feel free to suggest them to improve.

For me, I'd go with #4. Suggestions : consider reducing the vibrance/saturation on the mountains a tad - a bit overpowering to the picture. Also increase the luminence in the sky. Not withstanding, a great shot.

I'd also go with #4 and reduce the yellow a little. Second choice is #5. I'm choosing mainly by composition. All the images are sharp and give a good sense of the dramatic landscape. Where the others fall short IMO is that their middles are relatively empty.

Thanks, but can you explain what you mean by middle being relatively empty? #1 - #3 have clear subject matter through the middle of the image so I am a bit confused.

I would go with #4.

Because it is stunningly beautiful.

But also because it is unique, and unlikely to have any similar-looking entries in a contest.

The only thing that is bothersome to me about #4 is the blue sky at the top. . It is way too much of a bold and saturated blue. . I would try to see if you can make it a much more muted, paler looking blue.

Also, while adjusting the blue, I would make it a touch closer to the cyan side of things than the magenta side. . It seems to be very slightly leaning toward purplish blue (very very slight), but I think it would be much more complementary to the rest of the image if it leaned slightly toward the greenish blue side of things. . The tint of the current blue is somewhat incongruous with the hues of the mountains and the reflection.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I would go with #1. Conventional composition but very nice light.

4 is also great, but has horizontal lines in a vertical composition. Agreed with the others about the sky. It is nice but not in balance.

I am not convinced that B/W makes photos more artistic.

As for competitions, judging is very subjective and unpredictable. So don't micro-analyse your entries too much.

Thanks, but can you explain what you mean by middle being relatively empty? #1 - #3 have clear subject matter through the middle of the image so I am a bit confused.

All of them have something in the middle, but in 2 and 3 part of the middle is an expanse of calm water without strong detail. These middle sections are empty relative to other areas in the frame. (By "the middle," I mean a horizontal band that's roughly 1/3 of the total height.) Where do you want the viewer's gaze to rest? In 1 and 2, the obvious settling point is the building and bridge, but they're off to one side. 3 has three eminences and their reflections, and none of them is clearly dominant.

I'm not saying center your subject. 1 and 2 would be less interesting with the built structures placed in the center.

I haven't a clue what wins competitions, but looking at those beautiful shots it's #5 that's the standout for me in terms of composition and tone, with #4 coming in second. Whichever one the OP chooses, best wishes for a good result.

I'd like to see #3 in color rather than B&W. I think that would be the one.

Both 4 and 5 look like they should be on calendars or postcards. I would pick those. That said, the first image has got a lot going for it, especially mood-wise.

I'm also really digging #3. I also would like to see it in color.

I'd go with #4, certainly. I like #1, but a judge might object to the crop being 'too tight' (fine with me, but hey, I ain't gonna judge them—OTOH, they might not even think it a tight crop). #5 is super too, but again, the crop might be too tight on the top, and on the bottom they might think that the tiny patch of snow is more of a 'pokey' than a valid photo element. Who knows?

I'd also love to see the colour versions of the ones you turned to monochrome.

FWIW, the only real problem I see with all your shots is that **I** wasn't the one who took them!

A couple of you asked for the colour version of #3
I wish I could have stayed longer at the location for better warm lighting, but I couldn't

One of the reasons I chose a BW edit. CC welcome
