I'll be traveling (driving) to New Orleans for my wife's mini family reunion in March and am dithering about what I want to haul with me.

I can travel light with just my Powershot G11 (I did that for a recent trip to Las Angeles and other points west. It was nice to not lug a heavy bag with me and the IQ was acceptable...but I found myself missing longer focal lengths and better IQ with the DSLR)

I could just take my SX50 HS for its versatility (lightweight, 50X zoom)

I could take an Olympus E520 and a couple of lenses (lightweight, fits in a small bag)

or

I can bite the bullet and bring one of my DSLRs with 2-3 lenses, and have to deal with a heavier bag.

We'll be staying in the French Quarter, mostly, but there is a chance that I'll go on a bayou tour as well.

What would you take?

I would take my best gear with me. New Orleans is an amazing city to photograph and I can’t see why you would even be debating what gear to take.

Why did you buy your DSLR outfit if it isn’t to photograph places like NOLA.
