80D wifi and connecting to phone

Tonight i was messing around with my new to me 80D and its wi-fi. I was able to get my phone to recognize the camera but the camera kept saying "not connected to internet". Am I doing something wrong? I figured once the phone saw the camera after searching for it, i put in the password/key code and thats when my phone had it listed in the wi-fi screen. Am I skipping a step?

You have a wi-fi DEVICE connection between phone and camera, but you do not have a SERVICE connection to Internet via that device (your phone).
Perhaps you need to have your phone set up to work as a 'hotspot'...call your mobile vendor tech support and inquire.

You do not have a problem
Make sure to download the canon phone app
Once the camera and phone see each other open the app
If you use the wifi for camera to phone then you can not connect thru the wifi to the Internet (you can use your cellular connection)

my typical workflow when i am away from home- connect camera to phone - download and manage photos from phone, disable camera wifi (to save battery) reconnect phone to wifi (typically to hotel service ) and upload photos to the net (low res)

You can also use NFC to automatically connect (the NFC must be enabled and devices must be in close proximity ) - i find the wifi simple and best way

This is such a pita! I can get the camera to recognize the mobile hotspot but can't get the app to recognize the camera.

I've had a few connection issues too. Sometimes it will connect and other times it has other ideas. To be honest though I've only tried it a few times.
