Hey,

I was wondering if anybody has found a decent viewfinder magnifier for the 5DS/R or any of the other later 5D bodies? I can focus okay on my 5DS, but I'd really like a bit of a more zoomed in view at times. It would be really nice to have for macro (when not using live view) and for MF lens. Additionally, has anybody had any luck replacing focusing screens on 5D3, 5DS/R, or 5D4? I feel like what I really want is EVF capabilities on my Canon

Thanks

There are a number of Right Angle Finders made for Canon dSLRs. You want to find one that not only provide 1X view, but also magnification like 2.5X

Hmm, that's a very interesting concept that would help with both macro and landscape (depending on angle). Any idea on comfort in regards to having to basically look down into the viewfinder?

I was a science student in college, so I peered down into microscopes for hours at a time. Comfort is not an issue.

Good enough for me haha. They seem reasonably priced and sound like they fit exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Canon does not make any magnifiers for any of the newer 5D cameras since the 5D Mark III.

Not correct.

The Angle Finder C has 1.25x and 2.5x and it fits the newer 5D Mk III, 5D IV, 5DS, and 5DS R if you use the proper Ed-C adapter.

Cameras like the 70D, 80D, and 5D Mk II, with the smaller eye-piece, use the Ec-C adapter.

A new Angle Finder C includes both the Ec-C adaptor and the Ed-C adapter. If you buy used one you may find that you were missing the Ed-C adaptor

That compatibility list is incomplete. It's missing the 80D, 5D Mk III, 5D Mk IV, 1DX Mk II, and a whole bunch of older cameras.

These 90 degree finders don't work well if you have an on-camera flash mounted. Obviously only an issue if you use such a flash... but I use one all the time when doing macro.

Why is it an issue with an external flash? Does your head hit the flash?

Well, with a flash in the hot shoe. Yes, try it!

I have the Pentax 90 degree viewer. With some persuasion it fits my Canon cameras. But it can't be used with anything in the hot shoe because my head would butt into it.

Correct, but I was referring to a more direct replacement of the eyecup where its just straight.

Then one merely needs to angle the right angle finder, so the head clears the flash, like this...
