I was looking at the prices and there is quite a difference in price for almost the same focal length lens?

Isn't the 30 an EF-S lens(for crop camera's) so less glass/expensive? I know the 35 is an EF lens(for full-frame camera's).

The 30mm is made for crop sensors while the 35mm is full-frame (and can be used on any dslr sensor size).

Canon 5D IV | Canon 5D II | XSI (Infrared modified) | SL1 | 16-35mm L f/4.0 IS | 24-70mm L f/2.8 II | 40mm f/2.8 | 85mm f/1.8 | 70-200mm L f/4.0 IS | Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 | C/Y 28mm f/2.8 | Tamron 35mm f/1.8 VC | C/Y 50mm f/1.7 | Zeiss 100mm MP

30mm is for crop sensor. That's what the 'DC' in the name means.
35mm is for full frame. That's what the 'DG' in the name means.

Here is a link to a comparison between the two lenses:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com …ems/898831-REG_918894-REG (external link)

It looks like the primary difference is that the 30mm is an EF-S mount that will only work on 1.6 crop factor cameras, while the 35mm is an EF mount that will work on both full frame and crop frame cameras.

Only Canon make EF-S. EF-S lenses need to be modified to fit on a full frame body and sometimes, at some focal lengths or focus range the mirror will hit.

Only Canon make EF-S.

Perhaps, technically speaking, only Canon makes EF-S lenses.

However, both Canon and third party manufacturers such as Sigma make lenses with EF-S mounts.

Don't third party lens designed for EF-S still have an EF mount?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could have sworn that Canon EF-S mounts are different from the EF (EF-S won't mount at all). You could mount a Sigma DC (or any third party "EF-S") onto a full frame camera if you weren't worried about the mirror clearance issues.

Yes, I'll name one - the very Sigma 30mm Art that we are discussing.

According to the graph from B&H that I posted above, the SIgma 30mm f1.4 Art has an EF-S mount.

But the mount is EF not EF-S.

B n H are wrong. It's not an EF-S mount. It mounts on full frame bodies without modification and works quite well.

I was correct when I said "only Canon make EF-S" lenses. Third party crop lenses are just that, crop lenses. There is a difference.

Just one thread with people using the Sigma 30 Art on full frame Canon bodies:

Google "sigma 30 art on full frame" for a lot of information from people who try this.

POTN's msowsun has used quite a few EF-S lenses on full frame (after modifying them). No modification is required for the Sigma 30.

Now before anyone asks "why use a crop lens on a full frame body?"
