Why did I get this profanity warning when no profane acronym was used?

.
Just a few minutes ago, while typing a post, I got the following warning:

HOSTED PHOTO
please log in to view hosted photos in full size.

I have no idea why I got this warning, because I did not use this acronym anywhere in my post.

So, I am wondering if something is wrong with the code that has been written with respect to profanity detection.

Here is a link to the page with the post in question:
https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18568866

It is post #5, the second reply that I made to that thread.

The warning didn't just pop up as I was typing, and then go away. . Rather, it stayed there the entire time I was typing, right up to the very end when I hit the "submit" button.

I can see that if somebody misspells something, or forgets a space or whatever, that then this combination of letters, in this order, might inadvertently appear for a minute or so, until one is able to go back and make the corrections (upon proof reading the post). . But this was not the case here, because the warning stayed there for, like, 15 minutes after I had made all of the corrections and after I clicked on the "Preview & Save Draft" button.

One would think that clicking on the "Preview & Save Draft" button would clear all warnings that no longer apply. . It works this way with the "Open Quote" warnings, so why not with this profanity warning?

By the way, when I go back to edit the post this warning STILL shows up. . Sheesh!

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Hi Tom,

You DID use the acronym!

"I often think wistfully of what my life would be like if I had gotten into stock back in 1995 or 2000 or even 2005. "

The detection code needs to recognize the acronym used in isolation, but ignored when it is not immediately bracketed on each side by spaces (or be case sensitive and ignore when not in caps)!

I've triggered that warning myself. "Restful" will do it, and many other words.

Why does anyone need to get wistful or be restful?!
And why did this not just how trigger the profanity warning?!

Oh Look and Wilt ..... I should have known that if there was anybody I could count on for an explanation, it would be you two :-)

I get it now.

Wow.

I would have expected that the code would be written to recognize the letters "stfu" when they stand alone - like, only if there was a space before the "s" and a space, period, or comma after the "u".

For the code to recognize these letters when they are sandwiched between other letters doesn't seem like the way that it should be done. . Did this just slip through the cracks, or is there some specific reason that Pekka made it this way?

As I already brought up in post 4, with my use of both wistful or restful in my posts (now twice) why is this not triggering the profanity warning, yet it has done so for both you and for OhLook?

I don't know. Quoting your post did trigger the warning. Did you wait long enough for a Preview to appear?

Wilt,

When I quote you, I get the STFU warning ...... so perhaps it has to do with your browser?

So you are quoting my reply and you get the profanity warning?! I am using Chrome, BTW.
Perhaps you and OhLook simply have a label on your heads as users of profanity?! ;-)a

The forum 'save post' feature is on an automatic timer.

When it saves, it runs the profanity check. Work fast and you won't see the warning.

Yes, Brisket, but it isn't just on a timer. . You can click on it any time you want, so that the preview is instantly updated.

I always click on it multiple times as I am typing a post. . This makes it easier to proof read and make minor corrections as I go, instead of just waiting until I am all finished reading and then having to proof read everything all at once.

I can't even imagine working so fast, and then hitting the "submit" button, without first previewing the post to ensure that everything appears the way that I intend it to appear.

OK, Left Handed Brisket, I removed the profanities after triggering it with the S-T-F-U and the warning went away.

And I verified the timer, it did trigger on wistful. But I posted anyway, and I even see that warning now. I presume I will not be pulled over by the profanity police after ignoring the profanity warning.

So, Tom, go ahead and be profane while being wistful, and OhLook you can be profane while being restful,
and I will be profane by typing and posting quickly (and ignoring the message)

Or you can simply click on Preview & Save Draft for a refresh.

POTN apologies for disturbing your restful, wistful use of the forum.

This would be one of the "undocumented features" that can creep up from time to time.

FYI I have removed the image attachment in the first post, generated by the forum itself which ironically violated the forums rules of use! Bad Forum! Shame! :)
