May 27, 2019 12:20 | #142 I like most of your images but the first one needs to have the horizon leveled and the second one has a very busy background, needs a face, and could be taken with a larger aperture, lower ISO, and doesn't need such a fast shutter speed. It is a great moment for the capture (peak action) but would be better from the opposite side or from behind the plate so we could see the pitcher's face. www.zivnuska.zenfolio.com/blog

First of all, for not shooting baseball before I think you composition is really good. I'm with Phil on the horizon slope. As for the back of the pitcher, the kids like seeing their name or number (these end up being their social media profile images). Also regarding the pitcher, I would have leveled the image, cropped tighter and moved him more right center (I like having more space the direction the action is going - personal preference). The other thing to consider is that Phil is a pro and I'm a baseball dad... I'm Bill...

May 28, 2019 16:09 | #145 I'm happy to see this thread going strong - I just flipped through all the photos and there are some amazing images here. I've posted these photos in there own thread some time ago, but thought I repost here because I've had no chance to shoot my kid this season. So once in a blue moon, a dad's photo can become a baseball card... And no, I didn't get paid for the image, I couldn't sign the release waver fast enough! lol! -Bill IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2dfrR4wI'm Bill...

EDIT - this image would be perfect.... but you need to knock down the sharpening artifacts to get it there. At first look, I looked past them for the over all feel for the shot. But cruising through again today, the brim of the hat, arms.... and some other stuff show that this had a very heavy hand at shorpening. You can alway do the initial sharpening, then on a second pass with a brush knock down the artifacts. I just mention that because it is a cool capture but the sharpening ultimately detracts. Thank you Mark

It's a great image but I toss all the photos that show a kid in an un-athletic posture or failing - that's just me. -Bill From another baseball dad with a camera, I agree with all of these. I can also say that the parents like the "back of the player with the number" type picture too, like the batting stance from behind the player. Barely see the face, and no ball. Technically not right (no ball, no action, some to no face/eyes) but it gets a reaction. I think it is more due to an angle/view that parents don't typically see, especially when composed/cropped pretty tight. /shrug. T1i with 18-55, 55-250, 50 1.8

Croasdail making stuff up More info Post edited over 4 years ago by Croasdail. | May 30, 2019 13:26 | #149 I never post shots here, feeling a little guilty, so I'll toss this one into the heap. It was funny... this was called out at home plate. It even went into replay, and they confirmed the call. We aren't supposed to try to influence anything, but after the game while waiting for the next one got into a conversation with an official and showed him this.... his comment was "huh... well.... wow.... ok". Anyways.... neither team made it into the final, so no harm, no foul.
