Google the new Tamron 70-210mm f/4. It is worse. Really.

I was hoping for a real alternative to Nikon beloved 105, but this thing is huge and heavy.

Would be fun to rent it and play for a few days, but at 1.6kg I can't imagine buying it and carrying it around all day.

This lens was easy and quick to cull from my list of considerations.

There are so many great 85mm @ f/ 1.2 - 1.4 - 1.8 and 135mm @ f/ 1.8 - 2.0 ... that with a few steps one way or the other and less weight, the other seem much better choices. For my needs.

Not only are most of the other choices lighter, but some have IS too.

The gargantuan filter diameter could really dent the funds of certain photographers.

The images this lens is capable of producing is amazing. Have seen 200f/2.0 v/s this 105 1.4 comparisons.

Bokeh is non distinguishable. The 200 will pull the background a little closer but the Bokeh is the same

Its not a hard choice

5K v/s $1700.00

IS is a non factor. put it at 1/200 and go shoot. The only reason I have not purchased this lens is because Im waiting for a dual card R body, future R bodies are supposed to be IBIS and canon has announced a R105 F/1.4

If you have no intention of going R mounts...this is a great great lens to have in the bag. I was beyond impressed. I would choose it over my 85 art

In the end, R mounts and bodies are going to take over so Im not doing a thing until next release

Have not seen/heard anything like that - but wouldn't surprise me, Nikon has had one for a while too!
