There are many that think the M series is dead with the EOS R and RP being out in the world. I think the opposite. The M50 is an APS C version of the EOS R and with just some improvements here and there, could very be the mirrorless replacement for the Rebel series.
I hope the M series thrives too. When I picked up the M50 with kit lens, it felt pretty much at the limit from what I could comfortably handhold for any prolonged period of time. The R series, if they're just slightly smaller versions of FF lenses, would likely be way too heavy to use normally. The M series lenses really are nice, since we're not forced into FF lens territory.
Now if you want some more fun... try getting the Viltrox .71x M booster for $160. Then couple it with some of your favorite EF lenses and see what you think. I am quite sure you are going to feel like you have a mini EOS R.

Let's just say that the only thing that the EOS R would have over such a combination would be the RF mount, a better AF system (or at least more profile-able one), and much longer battery life.
That sounds like a fun setup!

I think the best thing Canon could do if they really want the M series to take off would be aoffer a couple of
faster lens option in the native mount.
15-45mm is
f/6.311-22mm is
f/5.6No reason those lenses can’t be f/2.8-f/4 without adding too much bulk or cost. Personally, I believe that is the greates reason the M didn’t take off when first introduced.
Personally, just making the 15-45 f/5.6 at the tele end would be nice. I know it's only a third of a stop, but if any of the 17-50/5 f/2.8 lenses are any indication, that's just two heavy for a zoom lens with an M50 IMO. The 2.8-4 idea is nice, though. Fuji seems to have kept theirs nice and light (somehow).
