As we folks in the northern hemisphere emerge from winter, thoughts turn to things greening up. Let's see some examples of Plant Life. Can be anything that falls under that umbrella.

The challenge begins when posted, and will end on Sunday, Mar 4, 2018 at midnight CDT. The winner will be announced shortly thereafter. (Or more likely, the next morning.)

CHALLENGE RULES:
1. Camera: Any DIGITAL CAMERA is allowed, (not just DSLR)
2. Time: Any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size: See standard P.O.T.N. Image Posting Rules.
4. Post Processing: Do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting: ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
6. Details: Show camera model & lens used. Post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
7. Commenting: Please, NO COMMENTING DURING CHALLENGE feel free to comment in this thread after a winner is declared.
8. Content: Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.
9. Have questions? PM me.
10. Have FUN!

* THE WINNER ALWAYS SETS THE THEME FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE, POSTS IT AND JUDGES IT - BE PREPARED! A new challenge should be posted ASAP after you have been declared the winner.

a poorly welded (NOT by a trained welder but someone who THOUGHT he knew how) fixture broke while being lifted with a fork truck, it tipped up and hit a sprinkler head. thats the nasty oily water thats inside fire suppression lines, in the plant...

I was hoping for more entries with this subject, but the ones we got are all high quality. I've been waffling back and forth for a while trying to make a decision.

Ltdave - I love the humorous take on the subject and I feel bad for the poor guy in the image. I've been on work sites that had water pipe breaks and they're never fun to deal with.

darkslinger - Awesome shot. Super bokeh and crystal sharp focus on the main subject.

teekay - Another one with super sharp focus. And I love the blacked out background.

OldCrow - Excellent shot as well. Again, sharp where it should be and nice background bokeh.

I'm going to go with teekay's shot just because I love the blacked out background and have never been able to reproduce that. The edge between teekay's shot and darkslinger's is razor thin, though. Tough decision. OldCrow with 3rd and a big honorable mention and tip of the hat to Ltdave for the humorous alternate interpretation.

Well done, all. Over to you, teekay.

Thanks, Mark. It's over 10 years since I took that shot but I'm sure it wasn't hard to get a black background. I probably brought the thistle home and just spot lit it against a black board - no fancy processing, for sure.

BTW I really enjoyed Ltdave's twist on the theme;-)a

Now trying to think of a new subject that will get more entries....sigh.

New challenge is now posted and, in response to the question that LT Dave raised in the last one, I have made this particular challenge "no cell phones".

When these challenges were originally expanded from purely DSLR to "all digital cameras", the rule was no cell phones but that got lost sometime later and so this may be worth discussing.

Should cell phone photographs be allowed in these particular challenges and if not why not? And if so, what about dashcams, trail cams, security cameras and all the other devices that may be capable of taking a photograph?

I have no problems with cell phone shots because they really are becoming the primary means of photography for many people. Plus they require input/action on the part of the photographer, whereas trail cams and dash cams are essentially passive devices that capture whatever is in front of them with no user input.

Just my 2 centavos.

i looked at it as a digital camera because it is a camera but, hey i dont make the rules, didnt see anything specifically prohibiting them, and its with me all the time. i cant really get away with carrying my dslr "in the plant" on a daily basis...

whoever makes the post gets to make the rules, the way i see it...

congratulations guys with your flowers!

I agree with Mark J, I think that cell phones should be included.
