Just got my MC-11 and did a quick test real quick for eye AF on my sigma 135 Art in not very well lit area, out of 5 pictures (focus with eye AF, take shot, defocus, refocus with eye AF, take shot etc) 3 were oof, and 2 were slightly front focused. Also the lens focusing motor makes a different noise than when on my 5D4 or Metabones V adapter.

update firmware, the old mc-11 was horrific, new firmware should be even better than mbV

It will be interesting how the native E mount Art lenses perform once they are released!

Is this with updated mc-11 firmware?

Updating the firmware was the first thing I did as soon as it was delivered, so it's not a firmware issue. MC-11 and MBV work identical on my 24-70 II but the sigma 135 art works better on MBV

my buddy has my 135A and it does work very well with metabones, how I typically used it. I tried it with the MC-11 a few weeks ago, and it was horrific. Since then, the firmware was updated; I have yet to try it, but my buddy reports it's good. I wont need it till june, so hoping to see how good/bad it'll be.

I forget, you're running the A7mk3 not A7r3, so maybe it's a firmware issue on the MC-11 side? My buddy should be getting his 7 mk 3 soon, so I'll be able to test R3, mk3, MBiv, and MC-11.

Yeah Sigma probably needs to update the firmware to accommodate the a7iii af system. Sigma was worse on the a7riii at first, but now its rock solid

What worries me is the sound of the focusing motor on the 135 Art when mounted to MC-11, it doesn't sound right at all

That's because the mc-11 enables hybrid AF. The sound you're hearing is the high speed racking that happens with the a7riii's CDAF system. With the Metabones, it's PDAF only.

You should hear the 120-300/2.8 Sport on the A7r3. It chatters constantly in AF-C. The lens makes a series of clicks on a Canon dSLR in AI-servo, but on a Sony it is just a continuous sound.

Works though.

Ah ok, but only on sigma lenses then? The Canon sounds normal.

I guess as long as it works lol

Also doing more testing, with the 100-400 taking pics of airplanes on short final, spot focus, MBV catches and keeps tracking the whole way, MC-11 hunts every so often and it just seems delayed, like the focus is a little behind

You can actually enable hybrid AF on the metabones too. It's buggy though, and now that Sony has taken a lot of the chains off of adapted glass with the MKIII bodies, there's little reason to do so:

I have the MBV in "Green" mode, that's phase detect right?
With the MBV and all lenses I see the square corner markings in the viewfinder, with the MC-11 I see it on all lenses except the 135 Art

Oh and something else I just noticed, the MC-11 does not report the correct lens in the EXIF, the MBV does
