I think if this had a fully articulating screen I would be selling my current camera for it straight away. On one side, I really love and now prefer using an EVF but on the other, I'm so used to the articulating screen that I'd feel at a loss without it.

the tilt screen is more for photography (much more compact in use), while the articulating screen is more for video. I prefer the tilt screen as I use it more for photography and find it just fine for video. Sony should make the A7siii with an articulating screen, since that model is more video centric.

Funny you say that because I don't do any video but love the articulating screen. For some still life I shoot, I hold stuff like fairy lights up in the background so being able to see the positioning really helps. I've also tried to do self portraits which the screen really helped.

I want an articulating screen for the ability to tilt it in portrait orientation. The tilt screen seems limiting when you can only use it in landscape orientation (for stills)

^^^This, this, and this again!!!^^^ The inability to tilt the screen when shooting low angle portrait orientation shots is crippling. I would upgrade for that feature alone.

The tilt screen is fine if you shoot in landscape orientation, but totally useless if you shoot in portrait orientation. I'd much prefer if they released their cameras with fully articulating screens.

fuji's tilt screen is how it should be done

as a nearly full time rear screen shooter, I'll take limitations over an articulating screen, which would slow down shooting time drastically. In a perfect world, a mix between fuji's 3 way tilt and sony's full flip to the front would be my preferred solution. My first camera was a full rear LCD fully articulating pns, and the system gets bigger than it needs to. I guess if you incidentally use the rear screen, then it can be an advantage in those scenarios, but full time use, I dont want the associated bulk of flipping the whole screen out.

I only ever use the rear screen for shooting landscapes off a tripod. The flip out is very handy when I have it setup lower to the ground as I can just flip the screen out and not need to get down onto my knees or lay right down on the ground. My biggest issue is I shoot a lot of landscape images in the portrait orientation where the flip out is useless.

Yesterday I picked up the first batch of Sony A7iii in my area.

I'll have to say it's a potent piece of gear. I installed Adobe DNG Converter 10.3 and it is extremely fast in converting Sony RAW to DNG. Lightroom 6 populates the screen faster than my 5mdk4 and fuji files.

I've only tested my 24Lmk2 and 16-35 f/2.8mk2 with the MC-11 adapter. It seems to work reasonably well as I've only had limited time to test.

Kinda scary but .......I like it :)

I have a lot to test still but I'm thinking I'll slowly warm up to the Sony world. Just gotta eventually pony up $$$ for sony glass.

Now that I've been adding stuff to the "favorite" tab in the camera I can rock this A7iii almost as well as my canon and fuji. Sony's menu system just has alot of pages per "tab" but it's pretty simple to understand in a short duration of time.

Looking forward to hearing more feedback from the a7III crowd. Looking to add one in the near future. I have an a7rIII so not an immediate priority, but I'd like one to my kit to as the III and rIII they seem to have distinct advantages that compliment one another perfectly

I'm new to the Sony world, been Canon for 30 years, I'm keeping my A7III for what it's worth, but possibly alongside my 5D4. From testing both the A7III and the A7RIII with native and adapted glass I found the A7III AF to be better personally.

I had the a9 for a bit, and that makes a lot of sense, given that the a7III and a9 share the same AF system.

I dunno... I think you pretty much need all 3 to be 100% versatile. But who knows. Maybe when the A7sIII gets announced then just a A9/7R/7S combo would be perfect.

Talley,

I'd suggest enjoying your A7R3 and when the A9mk2 comes out I'd say jump on that one. At this moment when I analyze my style of shooting I don't think I could purchase an A7S series as the cheap A7iii already covers most basis for me and a lot of other still photographers. I cannot comment on video because I'm a small clip shooter for family and voluntary minor videography.

The A9mk2 should retain the smaller Mega pixel count sensor so this would suite your daily photos without filling up the hard drive too fast. When you want higher MP files grab the killer A7Rmk3.
