Maybe. However with every Sony camera release there are ‘problems’ reported it seems then you use the camera and they are not there. I have read a few places about the focus issue though so it might be real and might be getting fixed. Seems to be sporadic though as others don’t have the issue. Might be a particular batch

On DPR I've only read of two people having the issue so doesn't seem like a wide spread issue, just the standard QC issues that happens to any electronics.

You're switching so Sony??? I think you will enjoy it! I bought the a6500 last year and have been hooked ever since! I almost bought the 6Dmk2 to replace my old 6D but decided to wait. Nearly bought the a7rIII but was soo busy with weddings that I was forced to wait. I'm glad that happened haha. I should be receiving my a7III on Monday. I can't wait!!!

I wouldn't really call it switching, more just adding a Sony kit :p once that Canon FF Mirrorless launches I will own both systems haha.
My A73 was meant to arrive this week but the place I was buying from changed the date all of a sudden so now I'm trying to buy from somewhere else

I think you’ll notice that once you use Sony you’ll see how Sony‘s interpretation of real world rendering is different then canon and also in my case Fuji.

Small aperture images with my Fuji (even Canon to a certain degree) produces a painterly look while shooting outdoors while Sony small aperture images still seem more life like clarity.

Be aware Sony colour science is completely and entirely different to your familiar Canon Raw files. Non human subjects seem easier to deal with but skin tones needs substantial care imo. Be observant and analyze Sony portraits and it seems there is a larger demonstration of excellent to average post processing skills for colour accuracy and skin tones. Calibrated monitors is already imperative but it’s an essential tool especially for skin tones.

So I got my A7III mostly all setup (still trying to figure out what to map to some of the custom buttons) and gave it a bit of a try.

I took some test shots of my girlfriend using the Canon 35mm f/2 IS with the MC-11 and the AF was surprisingly fast and very accurate. The focus area was wide but not the full area you would get with a native lens.

She moves a lot so I usually struggle to get a sharp shot of her even at 1/100th yet with the A7III I was getting tack sharp shots at 1/60th so IBIS is amazing. Funnily enough when I showed the photos to my girlfriend, she said "oh the colors are different on this camera" which they definitely are. I feel like they are a bit less saturated than Canon BUT I actually prefer this.

The other thing I found funny was I'm so slow at operating this camera compared to my Canon. My girlfriend asked me to zoom in on the image and she waited a few seconds and I still hadn't figured out how to :p

I'm taking it out with me tomorrow for the day and will go do some long exposures on Sunday and will hopefully have some images to share soon :D

Dlee,

I will warn you right now..... shoot grey cards as much as possible. You will thank me when you start post processing skin tones.

Recently I took photos of cars and the reds were punchy and I struggled to get them right. I am using my xrite passport as much as possible shooting the grey and colour calibration section for Lightroom.

I’ve spoken to many Canon shooter’s that have purchased Sony now and interesting enough they are struggling just like me especially with skin tones especially in mixed lighting.

It’s juat a different editing workflow. Once it clicks it’s fine.

I definitely can say it's a different type of workflow. The colours are much more vivid.

Fuji has such a painterly look while the Sony is extremely real to life and seems like added clarity in RAW files.

I just find that it’s the sharpness I notice more, I don’t feel it’s like added clarity. Coming from the 5D series it took me a bit to get used to but now I absolutely love the files

I will say this.. the sony files are much more digital looking to me and I feel the Canon files are much more analog looking. Film like. The Sony is just super clear, clean, digitally enhanced look right out of the box.

I can't remember who but in one review the guy described Canon/Nikon DSLR's as cameras with some digital computer functions where as the Sony's are more like computers that take photos. I think this is a pretty fair and accurate description.

I haven't used it enough to have a solid opinion on the colors but I should have a better idea by the end of today.

Fuji has such a painterly look while the Sony is extremely real to life and seems like added clarity in RAW files.

How easy is it to change that “painterly” look of Fuji if one does not want it. I’d much rather start as close to real life as possible, then add the look rather than a camera forcing a certain look onto me.

From my experience, Fuji colours are the most baked of all the different camera manufactures ( Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fuji ) that i’ve used.

The beauty of the Sony files is there are so damn mailable, you can convert them to any look you like...much more mailable than Canon files.

I much prefer the detail I get from Sony for my landscape images than the somewhat mushy images I git using a 5d2.

I wasn't complaining about it but it is different.

But I want people to think about this... Nikon cameras use Sony sensor.... So why does the color science change?!?!. Right.

But ya, I mean I've ALWAYS been a Canon guy. I'm use to the Canon look. I'm use to my editing for the Canon look. My POST has never been stellar. I know I will struggle with post even more going to sony but it's just something I will have to force myself to learn to do. I really enjoy shooting the Sony.
