shoot level, then crop, or buy a tiltshift.

Tilt shift would be a very expensive way of doing it haha. I always level it using the built in camera meter but it never quite feels right to me.

that's why I go ultra ultra wide, so I can just crop if needed. Generally, that's how architecture guys do it, and I kind of make it a habit shooting that way. Sometimes, I'll cheat and angle up, but it's more the exception to the rule.

image attached below to illustrate what I mean. Green line is the water, I want to take up 1/3 of the frame, so I'de have to shoot wider, then crop in post. This is with the in camera level, I can level it even further, but for illustration sake, it'll do.

Might give it a try next time. Sadly for my shot, I was at 17mm and only just fit everything in the frame. I couldn't go any further back too so shooting this way was my only option.

FE 12-24.... SUBSTANTIALLY wider than 17. Laowa is also coming out with a 10-18 FF lens, craziest focal range ever. The 12-24 is a very very good optic, similar to Canon's 11-24, maybe even sharper? it's very good.

FE 12-24mm looks real nice but way out of my budget right now. Maybe if I decide later on that I want to completely switch to Sony and sell my 16-35mm I will be able to afford it, but right now it's just a dream haha.

it's so small, cute and cuddly. This is what sony lenses should be all about.

small form factor, high image quality. Would be nice if the price were lower, but compared to the sigma 12-24 f4 and canon 11-24 f4, it's a darn good value for a highly engineered product.

The 28 f2, 50 f1.8*(arguably), and 85 f1.8, are all high value lenses and reasonable sizes. The dark horse is the tamron 28-75, that has a lot of potential.

Yeah I just noticed the weight of this lens is very good for what it is, lighter than my 16-35mm. I also seen in a review that you can still use filters on it which is a must for me.

Everything I'm seeing from early reviews and IQ tests is that the Tamron performs really well, even in the corners. I think that plus all the native Art lenses will push even more people to switch.

No, you cannot directly use filters on the 12-24, but there are some awkward work arounds that can get filters down to 15mm.

the work around is quite simple, simply buy a 77mm filter, add about 4 layers of gaffers tape, 10" long, 1/4" wide, and start wrapping the outside of the filter. I can make one in 10 minutes, it's super easy to make, and can go a little wider than 15, maybe 14 if you put a little care into making it? that's pretty good, and in the field, it's ultra fast to use, as fast as putting on your cap and taking it off. Considerably faster than square filters. Downside is that you cant stack or gnd's.

there arent many lenses that can go to 14mm and take more conventional filters. The hack is one of the easier ones, sort of like adding light dims to the R2 evf to reduce the sensitivity of the proximity sensor. Really not a big deal to do. 12mm is a bit niche, but I do use 14,15 all the time.

In one review I seen that Nisi make a filter holder that supports this lens and seems to work well. This is obviously for Sqaure filters which doesn't bother me since I won't use circular ever again after switching.

What’s the cost of a holder along with a polarized and a 6 stop and 10 stop ND filters...and are the filters colour neutral.

I use circular filters with step down rings to fit all my lenses.

I'm using the Haida 10 and 6 stop filters which I think were about $120 each AUD. They have the same quality as Lee but without the colour cast. For the holder and adapter ring, I got them from "The Filter Dude". He sells adapters and holders for like a quarter of the price of the Lee ones but just as good quality.

It appears these lenses with a bulbus front element require a different type of holder which I know Nisi make but I'm not sure if others do. I personally like square filters better thanks to them being easier to stack and take off/put back on between shots.

EDIT

This is the holder I was referring to for the Sony 12-24mm

Not sure if there's any 3rd party alternatives out yet.
