I plan to upgrade someday. Sony G series is more expensive than canon equvilant L glass.

Why do you need L glass or Sony G glass? There are many great options out there which deliver 99% if the quality for 1/2 the price.

I see too many people get lured in by the red ring or fancy Sony G labels.

I know, I like the tamron offerings for canon. But they dont offer sony options as of yet

The 28-75 2.8 is available for pre-orders.

The Sony 85 1.8 is a fabulous lens at a very good price. The same goes for the 12-24 F4 lens. The 28 f2 lens is really nice for the price.

I found a pain in the ass problem today shooting an engagement. The camera was knocking everything out of the park until a photo I tried to do at the bottom….

So I was trying to shoot this photo, but only her right eye showing by walking behind him further to my right….Eye focus has picked up on her LEFT eye so as I walk more to my right, her left eye will be obstructed, as it became obstructed her entire face lost focus and the camera lost focus….it won't focus on her right eye that I can still see. I tried using spot focus but face detection was still on and although i can see the square, it won't focus !!!!

I was like, WTF, focus dammit. I think Toggle face detect might have to be added to a short cut in this scenario but I am out of buttons !

p.s. It's amazing what a single 50mm lens can do !

For Red rings I think it has to do with build quality, image quality and less issues regarding focus for the mirrored bodies.

Sure enough people like 3rd party glass too. Some love Sigma but for me I find the Sigma primes to typically larger in size and weight. Also I just seem to have more luck with Canon OE glass with a mirrored Canon body.

Tamron's 28-75 seems to be a great alternative for the Sony world. I would prefer the Gmaster simply because of the 24mm on the wide end but substantially thinner wallet.

Do many of you use an external battery charger?

I picked up an incredibly cheap charger that seems to work well from Amazon.

Newmowa Dual USB Charger for Sony NP-FZ100

I've never purchased a camera where it lacks a battery charger. This Newmowa charger fit the bill by simply using my 2A wall wart usb charger via "supplied" usb cable to dual usb charger cradle.

I'm using the exact same one and should be receiving my second battery today. For the price of the camera, it really should have come with a charger

I have the Batis 25, 85 and Sony 35 2.8 for my travel kit. Nice and compact...yet delivers beautiful images.

For landscape, I basically kept my Canon mount lenses, Zeiss 21, 35 and 100 along with the Canon 70-200 f4 zoom.

I am looking closely at the new Laowa 10-18 lens to complement my landscape kit. I'm also looking to add the Tamron 28-70 lens to my travel kit.

The amount of lenses available for the Sony mount ( with adapters ) is growing all the time...some of which are absolute deals.

what you could do is turn face detect OFF.

program eye AF to a button, when initiated, it'll find the face and eye.

use point select when Eye AF is tripped up, it wont try to do a generic and inaccurate face detect. A little experience goes a long way :-)

kind of silly there's no charger, but also kind of cool that there's in body charging. That means your phone charger doubles as your battery charger for travel.

I've travelled with these sony cameras no charger, and it isnt an issue. It does feel odd, like you forgot something lol

I’m using that same charger too. It takes a while to charge but it does seem to work pretty well. I think it’s ridiculous that Sony doesn’t include a charger with a $2k camera... even if it is only the “base model”. There’s also no reason for the Sony charger to be $80 either, when similar OEM chargers are in the $40-50 range. I personally don’t feel comfortable leaving my camera just sitting out for 6 hours+ to charge batteries via a cable sticking into a fragile little USB port. That’s a long time for it to get bumped and crash to the floor, the cable get tripped over, etc.

In body charging is definitely great and would come in handy if you're out and need the quick charge. I still think it would be good to at least include a external charger.

It definitely is ridiculous for the price. I could imagine if Canon did this, people would try boycott all of their products :p I don't feel comfortable leaving mine out to charge either so one of the first things I did was get that charger before I even got the camera haha

I think one of Sony's main goal for the A7III was to release the best full-frame mirrorless camera body for under $2K....but had to sacrifice a few things to meet that. And one of them was the battery charger. They could've priced the body at around $2048...but I think their marketing team thought it would sell more at $1998 as opposed to $2048. That way they can advertise it as the best full-frame mirrorless body for less than $2K.

Personally, I think Sony should've just thrown it in with the $1998 price. They'll easily make up for it with the cost of their lenses.

I already have enough battery chargers from my other Sony cameras...don’t want to pay for more.

I have that one, works fine but a little slow, although not exactly a bad thing. I also bought the Sony one too when i need to charge it faster.

Well considering crop cameras from Nikon and Canon include them at all price points, it's not really an excuse to not include it. The A7III actually goes for $2998 AUD so for that extra money I'm paying I would really like one haha.

Hahaha yes very true about the lenses and their price. If only they release a budget 35mm f/1.8 like their 85mm it would be so good, I wouldn't need the Sigma.
