TeamSpeed wrote in post #18576099 I think for my sports shooting, I would be better off with the A9, but I cannot afford to get that now to transition fully to it. ![]() I would have to get the a7iii, then later sell all other items off, and the a7iii to move to the a9. Baby steps! Our LLC is going to have to see some revenue to get this ball rolling though. . "Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.

In the top post you say clearly that funds are not an issue. . Then in the bottom post you say that you cannot afford an A9 now, and also that you have to take baby steps by selling some of your current gear off as you go through the transition, and that you need more revenue to get this going. I have trouble seeing how these two posts are not contradicting each other. . Some kind of explanation or clarification as to what you really meant to say would help me to understand what the real situation is. . No I said funds aren't an issue, ie. all my discussions I talk about this year being the year of transition, so that means funds aren't going to be a problem in 2018. However, when they are available is up in the air. The life of a consultant in the software arena.... Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

(3 edits in all) | Mar 03, 2018 11:06 | #66 It feels like the A7III is the perfect one to start with, from my perspective. It is the price of the 6D2, but seems to go beyond whatever the 6D2 has to offer. Dollar to dollar, the A7III is a better camera, IMO, from at least an IQ and feature standpoint. Now ergonomics and file processing, not so sure. Some of the decisions to pull back on sensor tech and features that Canon has actively engaged in over the past 2 years is going to have an impact on their market presence in the next 3 years. With focus peaking in the viewfinder, it would make using them fun for general shooting, and I won't have very much wrapped in lenses. Then get the EF adapter to use the zooms. It would make for a versatile kit. Maybe in place of FD lenses, look at some of the Samyang offerings. . I know that most of your shooting is extremely fast-paced action, often at "point blank" range, where it would seem that world-class AF tracking would be essential. . I am curious as to how you would use focus peaking in such situations. . With focus peaking, don't you need to visually examine the image on the LCD screen to see which parts of the subject are in the sharpest focus? . How would there be time to do that if the players are moving about the floor so quickly. I have often thought about focus peaking and how incredibly useful it would be for stationary subjects, especially when I have the rig set up on a tripod. . But when I think about how focus peaking works, I have no idea how I would be able to use that for fast-moving subjects, or when I am hand-holding the camera. . The transition plan would be to first use Sony for portraits and learn the ecosystem that way, without impacting what I shoot a majority of the time. So senior portraits and family portraits (and just general family shots) would the first events for the Sony camera. For sports, there are times of no action, and crowd shots, I could probably move into those next with Sony. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I didn't want to hear that !!!! ![]() I'll admit using the light weight canon 35 f/2IS with the 5dmk4 is such a beautiful combo that actually feels better in my hands than my uncomfortable grip of the Fuji X-t2 with battery grip. OK please help me!!!! I love UWA lenses, 24mm and starting to appreciate 35mm primes again. Also I feel there's a sweet spot in 85mm primes. Please anyone..... what's a good suggestion??? What sony lens for a 24mm, 35mm and 85mm prime? Any decent native UWA zoom??? I'm gonna start out slow with Sony. I guess I should get the latest Metabone adapter to ease the pain of buying lenses. I just started my research ![]() The Zeiss Batis 25mm is labeled “25mm” but measures 24mm from actual FOV. It’s also marvelously lightweight. David | Flickr

It’s also marvelously lightweight. At 85mm you’ll want the Sony FE 85mm 1.8. Also the Zeiss Batis 85mm is superb, but the Sony is every bit as good for a lower price. 35mm is the tough one. If you want to minimize size weight the Sony FE 35mm 2.8 is outstanding. It’s expensive, though. An cheaper alternative is the Samyang/Rokinon 35mm 2.8. Another great option at 35mm is just keep your excellent Canon 35mm f/2 IS and use that. The adapter adds weight, but it’s still a reasonably lightweight solution. For my part I own the Zeiss Loxia 35mm for landscapes and Sony FE 35mm 1.4 for wide-open AF shooting. Zeiss needs to make a Batis 35mm F2, which would be an ideal solution. ....oops sorry.... Mar 03, 2018 12:18 | #73 I'm not sure how I feel about using adaptors but I hate the thought of giving up my 24/50/135 combo so I don't plan to dump any Canon gear, at least not right away. I'm going to wait to see more reviews but I think the A7III and the Batis 25 is a great combo to try out Sony. Even if I don't fully switch the a7III and 25 ( and something in the 35-85 range ) would make a great lightweight setup for travel etc. Website

It’s a great plan. Adapters work great, however they add about 4 ounces to your camera/lens combo. I’ve owned/used Metabones (IV) an Sigma MC-11 and got the best performance from Metabones, which is disappointing because the MC-11 looks nicer and costs less. David | Flickr
