well that stinks. I got the metabones. In the end I'll end up only adapting my sigma stuff. ugh.

Also... only way to really do the swap would be to sell the 200/2. This would be buying the A7R3 and the A73 (for the wife) but really we could then swap around bodies as needed.

Here is my sell list vs buy list. I planned on keeping the 35 and 85 arts and pick up a 135 to replace my 200/2.... :(

Basically I'm out just buying the 135... this is assuming I return the metabones and use the MC-11

Don't get too excited about the videos, I only had my 135 Art with me and it seemed to perform the same with both adapters, actually the metabones seemed a tad better at focusing speed

Sigma adapter does better with Sigma lenses....Metabones better with Canon lenses....you got Canon lenses, so you got the right thing. :)

Ya well that is the biggest problem for me though. I'll end up adapting my 200L and then my sigmas.

My entire hobby of gear lust has temporarily been shifted into overload. Please be patient while my mind tries to get back onto the road to recovery. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause....

So I am really looking forward to this camera. I've heard conflicting reports about the Sigma MC-11 depending on the firmware with regards to capabilities with L glass and outperforming it's Metabones counterpart, and it will be good to get feedback on which is now most effective and with what firmware.

Playing with a few of the raw image files posted by dpreview (Raw Therapee opens them without a problem). Impressive!

Some questions about the A73 after I sold my A7R2:

1. How much better is the Eye-AF accuracy compared to A7R2?
2. does eye-AF tracking really work well even when someone is running towards the camera?
3. how much difference is there in AF quality from the a9 vs a73?
4. Is there typically any launch promotion for new sony cameras? if not, how long do we usually need to wait before there's a good promo?
5. Are the improved skin tones and colors only valid on JPEGS or also in RAW files too?

Thanks!

I never tried the A7R2 so I wouldn't know but I tried the A7RIII and the A7III and I found the A7III more responsive. Walking towards, going side to side even almost at the top/bottom/side edges was not an issue, no way I could focus like that with my 5D4. Didn't test the A9 so I can't tell. I think the A7III at that price point is already a deal lol. Can't tell you that but, a RAW is a RAW lol. I suggest you download the files from DPReview mentioned above, some great stuff!

I probably get my A7 iii on friday this week .

Some concerns about artifacts in video.
3 different sources posted samples on youtube with the exact same artifact.

Look at these samples , bottom to the left
Sample 1 (external link)
Sample 2 (external link)
Sample 3 (external link)

When playing them on a 65" OLED tv makes them very annoying.

what do you think causing this?

Picked one up on Saturday.

Works with all my glass but the 100L is iffy to say the least, at least its a macro and I only use it as a MF lens.

Yes, Last friday.
I sometimes get that issue in video (4k25p 100mbit) that I linked too earlier.

Other than that I'm surprised how good it's working with Sigma MC-11+ Sigma 100-400

So, I couldn't help but get stuck into working more with RawTherapee 5.3 working with the A7iii files and I made an interesting observation now that dpreview posted the studio comparison raw files. The A7iii and 6D mkii are pretty identical as far as noise goes up through iso12800. (I haven't tried beyond that yet)

So this is default settings at iso12800 and 100% crops
A7iii

6D mkii

This is default settings plus Noise Reduction in RGB/High mode with Luminance set to 11

6D mkii

I am interested to see how Sony's other advances (such as the awesome autofocus) pan out for those with adapted L lenses. I am also interested to see if it's details can hold up any better on similarly underexposed shots to the competition. If the 6D mkii drops in price to the $1395 range it could be a more tempting choice for still photography.

I'm glad you posted those, my 6400 ISO A7III shots looked more noisy than the 12800 ones I find online (which look super clean)
