I just went to create a new thread in a forum, and noticed that whatever forum I'm in, the Start A New Thread button gives me a text box with the following post quoted:

It seems that way. They have a hard time fixing bugs. Some are carried forward to new version after new version. For example, sometimes renaming a file causes one or more photos to appear quite blurry. This bug has been around for many years. The workaround is to restart the program. Hopefully you do this before culling photos that look unsharp because of the bug.

Must have magically "unstuck" as it's not doing it now :)

I have just posted in a thread, so I assume that cleared it?

Yup, that's what did it.

This same thing happens to me frequently. . It happens when I use the multi quote tool. . For whatever reason, it can't just clear itself of the multi quote.

Madness, it is. . Madness!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Select all of the text, delete it, then save the draft

that will get rid of it too.

Side note, my god I have a lot of "saved" drafts. I had no idea I was so non-committal

The 'automatic quote' happens if you have selected MQ (multiquote) in one or several posts. That selections are persistent. To get rid of the automatic quotes, while in the post editor, click 'Quote TOOLS' and then 'CLEAR MQ SELECTIONS'.

I have noticed that in Thread A if I MQ some posts, start a Reply but then change my mind and leave the thread without posting, even though I am in Thread Z the MQs previously quoted will be inserted when I try to post in Thread Z.

I think that Pekka has done this intentionally, because there are times when someone may want to use a quote from one thread in a different thread.

If the quote "went away" once you left the thread, then it would be difficult for you to use a quote from Thread A in your post to Thread Z.

I think that Pekka has this whole thing well thought out, and has tried to account for everything that any of us might want to do.

I'd just copy and paste the relevant text. I can see the logic in your comment above, but there's an assumption of the user's intention, and a temporal issue: i.e. it's unlikely you'd want it to remember a quote when you start a new post some days later.

The design doesn't assume what the user's intention will be, but it does take into account an intention that the user might have. Copying and pasting works for single pieces of simple text. It's harder to use if you want to include quotes from more than one post, let alone more than one thread (you have to go back and forth to collect the materials), and it doesn't preserve thumbnails. So I agree with Tom that the feature is likely intentional.

You might want to use MQ to save posts to reply to later, when you expect to have more time or when you've looked up (or shot) something that different people asked about.

To prevent accumulating leftovers from unused MQing, you can use the CANCEL button before you leave the page.

Well, see, that's not a very good method, because it won't link to that relevant text. I often want to see a quote in context but if there's no link I can't do that. I would need to use Search. Not handy. Copy&paste also won't show who the author of the relevant text is. Unless you specifically mention that of course.

I absolutely love how you can MQ from different threads and incorporate them into your comment. I just think it's brilliant.

And if you have "leftovers", well, just click the left arrow (in the toolbox all the way at the bottom), that will remove everything.

Whoa, mind blown. :D

On my computer years of design work has made me quick with keyboard shortcuts, but I am usually posting to POTN from my phone lately. Knowing that arrow will erase the multi quote is great.
