Chachalacas

I was in Texas visiting family and made a little side trip to the Rio Grande Valley. The weather wasn't very good - overcast and some rain, but it was nice to see some different birds.

What an odd bird; thanks for sharing! That last shot make it look like some sort of 'hawk chicken'...:p

Very nice series. I was in LRGV around Christmas and saw some of these. You got much better poses and IQ than I did, nice work. These birds were very active.

On the ground they resemble a pheasant, but they spend a lot of time in the trees. I think the last one is a roosting posture. It had just stopped raining and the bird was wet. They're also very loud.

Thanks. I would have liked to have better backgrounds, but they don't seem to get too far from the trees or the feeders.

A great series Ken! I need to make it down there someday, especially now since I live a bit closer.
