Need filter for Canon 35mm f1.4L lens

can you suggest a good filter for this lens (don't want to break the bank)?

just a protective filter, a uv probably.

B+W 010 UV MRC filter. Excellent protection with virtually no impact on image quality. About $40. I have this model on all my lenses.

Unless you are shooting on the beach or in the desert you really don't need a protective filter.

That always starts an argument. But at CAN$1500 and up, if the user feels better with a filter, so be it.
