Thank you for the honor of choosing the next challenge.

A little backgrounder on my photo. For the last 4 years I've shot this conference for a national casual restaurant chain. A good gig. Because I was a regular fixture there, and was sensitive about not posting unflattering pics, I became quite trusted by the attendees. This allowed me to become rather invisible and to gain access to some pretty intimate vantage points. Due to what I heard were monetary cuts, I'm sitting at home this year. Kinda miss it :-( . Fortunately I'm busy with other stuff:-).

Gotta run right now. I'll get a new challenge up as soon as I can.
Thanks again,
Mark

Now how about a little judging exercise?

Let's see how YOU all would do if faced with this particular challenge. Please vote for your top three choices and then after a few days I'll do the arithmetic and announce the collective verdict using the same scoring method as the challenges in the "Small Compact Digital" section of the forum.

Anybody can vote but don't vote for your own entry. Just post three names as below:

1.
2.
3.

Just noticed that Paul B's entry (horses on beach) has been deleted which will change things, but please press on with voting anyway. Maybe you can remember it well enough.

.
1: . Scatterbrained

2: . M Six

3: . Airfrog

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

OK, it looks as if nobody else is voting, so the top three tally is as follows, based on 3 points for each #1 vote, 2 for each #2 vote and 1 for each #3 vote:

Scatterbrained - 13
airfrogusmc - 6
texkam - 5

So it would have been a clear win for Scatterbrained if the challenge had been run on that system. Having participated in both types (here and in the "Small Compact" section) I think this voting system is not a bad idea as it doesn't stick winners with the hard job of judging and so might encourage more entries. We might consider changing. Opinions?

In the meantime, Texcam, we eagerly await a new challenge.;-)a

I wouldn't want this system to change. I think it's fine to have a challenge where the host picks his/her favorite, instead of feeling pressured to have the "best" photo win.

Teekay, it's supposed to be about what photo you liked the best! . So making that decision really shouldn't be so hard, should it?

Sure, Tom, it's usually not hard to choose the photo one likes the best, but I found judging this challenge particularly hard. Both the photos I liked best had simple problems that really stuck out for me and that I would have corrected before posting if they were mine, so deciding how to rank them was a problem I wrestled with. I'm just glad that no money is involved and that it's supposed to be fun, not serious.

I think the problem with the voting system is that it took a week to accumulate the votes. It's not like there's a prize on the line here, it's all just for fun. Better to let the winner of the previous judge their own, as we've been doing. It keeps things moving along. ;-)a

You can always put the names in a hat and have a blind draw if it gets too tough. :-P
