Lens selection

Which lens is the better lens. The Canon 16-35 f4 or Tamron 15-30. They cost about the same, both get good reviews, here and other sites. Please help. I’m so confused

No idea on the Tamron as I have never used one! However I can say, with confidence, that the Canon 16-35 F4 L IS performs far better than I expected at the price - I am one very happy owner!.

From what I read they are very close in IQ at similar apertures though some reviewers favor the Canon - but only by a VERY small margin. To me the big dividers seem to be F2.8 - the Canon simply doesn't do this! Weight - the Canon is quite a bit lighter this may or may not matter to you. Filters - the Canon is much easier here.

It appears that it is all down to your personal needs/wants. The Canon certainly suits my needs very nicely but we are all different. Perhaps a case of try before you buy?

It might help to know what you plan to use it for. 'Better' can be subjective.

I don't know much about the Tamron either, but one thing to note is that the Canon is definitely sharper at the wide end than the long end. So if you think you will mostly use them at one end ot the other, that might factor into your decision.

Better meaning sharpness, build, etc
