Live view responsivity.

I love using live view on my 5D IV and now 6D II with DPAF as it allows me some great angles without ruining my knees, but I find that the camera responds really sluggishly in this mode. From pressing the shutter button to the time when it stops making noise seems to take ages. I'm not sure whether the shutter is open in the middle of all of this noisy activity or perhaps it's nearer the beginning or end of the cycle, but it feels safest to hold the camera as still as I can for a while. Has anyone else noticed this or found a way to minimise the apparent sluggishness?

It's fairly obvious, if you think about how a camera works. When you take a photo in the normal way, the sensor is reset and ready for action. As soon as the shutter opens, the picture will be taken. Then the shutter closes and the picture is captured.

In live view mode, the sensor is running in what we could call video mode and the shutter is open. When you press the trigger button, the shutter must be closed, the sensor should be cleared and made ready to capture a photo, and finally the shutter must open and close to capture the image. It's either that, or the camera has to run the first exposure start with an electronic shutter, then close the mechanical one.

Whichever, the process is more cumbersome for the camera, when shooting live view.

Thanks, it makes a lot of sense when you lay it all out. I guess it just feels like far longer when I'm shooting.
