All of a sudden I am getting emails from POTN very frequently. . I wonder if something is wrong with the automated email notification system, because this just started happening today.

Prior to today, I would get, like, just one email a day about new posts. . But now? . Well, look for yourself:

That's 4 emails in just one hour!

I do not want to "turn off" notifications, because I like to be reminded about things regularly. . But if I keep getting these emails at this same rate of frequency, it will be difficult to keep up with it all. . I already get that with one of the Facebook groups that I am a part of, and it's all I can do to keep up with that group.

Is there a way to get just one or two new post notification emails a day, instead of one every few minutes?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Thanks, Jeff - I'll have to check that out.

However, it doesn't explain why I have gotten so many emails all of a sudden when I never used to. I never changed the default settings, and yet something definitely changed.

I want to understand what exactly happened at around 11:30 this morning, and why it happened.

Just fixing the problem isn't enough for me - I want to know all of the whys and wherefores about why this happened.

By the way, since I started this post about an hour ago, I've received 3 EDIT - now 4 - more emails from POTN.

Are there too many items on this FYEO page? Also check the settings after the list there.

Pekka said that their would be no email for a while due to server changes.

It might be that the issues that caused no emails later caused a "catch up" on emails that would have been sent the last 4-5 days since the change.

Is there content in the email that might give a clue when they might have originated? Maybe if you compare the email to the referenced POTN activity?

Followed thread emails is a feature that many requested.

The previous versions of AMASS may not have sent notification emails for followed threads in the way that the latest version does. So no, you may not have received as many emails with the prior version.

The reason it did not start happening immediately after the latest update, is as Brisket pointed out, the email server was not up and running immediately after the upgrade.

Many of the tools you now have to adjust what emails you receive and how often are also new with the upgrade. One of the simpler settings that was carried over from the old version is likely why you are now receiving so many, now that the thread followed emails are being sent.

In my case, for example, I had pretty much no emails requested, so the change did not effect me the way it did you.

F.Y.I. one can follow threads without getting any emails. I have literally hundreds followed.

It is this page that controls email notifications;
https://photography-on-the.net …?show=notification_emails

.. and it is full of flexible options. :)

I also received a bunch of emails which prompted my investigation of the settings. The defaults didn’t seem to match the email receipt count...so I disabled them. Perhaps it’s a conversion calculation on time or something like that.

I have quite a few notifications myself ..... it's all I can do to try to keep up with all of the things on POTN that I am really interested in.

In fact, I can't keep up, no matter how many hours I spend each day trying to.

OK ... this looks to be helpful/hopeful.

I get far too much email already.

If I want to check out what is going on in POTN and catch up with my notifications, I will navigate to the site and find out very easily. Unless life (in general) or work (in particular) gets seriously in the way, I will usually check in quickly at least once a day and this suits me fine. I don't need or want any email reminders about my stacked-up notifications. Right now I have a hundred or so and rising by the hour. I'll follow up when I have the time ... maybe at the weekend. I don't need emails to remind me.

This is arguably hoarding behaviour. Do you have the strength of purpose to clear up by yourself or are you going to need outside help before things get totally out of hand?

Ok, so I went into the For Your Eyes Only settings and found the Notification Emails section.

When I opened that up, I found a lot of adjustable settings, as others said I would. . I saw that by default it was set to send me an email for every single notification, so I changed it.

But here is where it gets really interesting:

Lower down on that page, there is a setting for the maximum number of emails within a 24 hour period - and mine was set to two!
That's right - the default was set to only send me two emails within any 24 hour period. . So why then have I been receiving so many?

Is it possible that something in the system is "broken", and not doing everything exactly as it is supposed to?

There doesn't seem to be a zero option here. That would be my preference.
